Season's First Ride in Southern Utah
« on: March 24, 2012, 04:39:08 PM »
I've been reading the responses to athawk11's, "I've got a problem." Like most, I had (and have) those same feelings. I really missed looking forward to "slaying the next dragon" that stood between me and the completion of the restoration.  But, now I'm pleased to start a new topic for the 4th Spring in a row since my project was completed, about my first ride of the season. It's really great to see each of the parts and components come to life and, working together, do the job they were designed to do more than 60 years ago.  With the temperature forecast to be in the low 70s today I knew it would be a good day for that ride.

Following the leader who got lost and is coming back. Sometimes the trails are hard to find in the Spring.

Found the trail into the valley. My wife was ill today so she missed the ride. Seldom do I go without her. So I had to take the pics myself.

Our are the first tire tracks on the trail this year.

Nature closed the road since last fall. I prefer this type of closure to the frequent BLM closures. And the environmentalists claim it's our tracks causing the erosion. This erosion crosses our tracks that USED to be there.

Having to go around. Aren't this little Jeeps great?

Coming back out. What a fun drive on a such a beautiful day.

Calvin,
I am officially jealous.   I have got to figure out how get my Willys to the great outdoors.  I live moments from the foothills of Colorado, but it takes hours to get to areas that are as remote as you show in your photos.

Can you drive your Willys to these areas?  Are you that close to solitude?  Wait....don't answer.  I fear you are...and that will be that much more painful for me.

Great Photos of your beautiful Willys.

The trail in this post starts just 6 miles from my home. There are a few others like it that start even closer than that. However, most of the trails you've seen in my posts are up to 18 miles away--each that a Willys can easily drive to. I can see the Colorado Rockies from here, but I know that you live clear on the other side of them to the east. Others have brought their Jeeps from even greater distances so, come and join us.

I have to say that Calvin is a great "tour guide". He really knows the area and its history. The scenery is fantastic too!

Uh huh, you and Arlin are trying to make me jealous again aren't you. Well, dag nabit you did. All I have around here is a few trails in the woods. Well, you just wait, I'll be coming out there to wear me and the Jeep out and the more the merrier.

Dang it, all I have to do is close my eyes and I can see everywhere we visited there last summer and it makes me want to pack up and head West.

Oh, BTW, ya'll had to much fun so you better save some for me.

That washed out trail shows the Fat Old Broads for Wilderness don't know as much as they think they do. My mistake, it's really the Great Old Broads for Wilderness.
