I don't know how many people here watch Auction Kings on Discovery Channel, but it's a show about an auction house in Atlanta where people bring in items to be auctioned. Some things are interesting.

On last nights show they featured a 1946 Willys Jeep totally restored by Richard Petty's garage.  It was done up in OD, stars, etc.  I couldn't help yell at the screen about all the inaccuracies in the restoration that they were calling "perfect".  They took the Jeep to an "expert" to validate the restoration.  When the host pointed to the PTO shift and asked what the "extra shifter" was for, the EXPERT said that was "the granny gear shifter for going really slow"   :o  He's the "expert" ???

The grill had M38 headlight guards, it had no backseat, the tub was an obvious 3A repop.

The "prefectly restored 1946 Willys" sold for $16,000  !!

Actually....think about it for a minute.. What do you think Petty's shop would have had in the jeep by the time they were done with the restomod job....The guy got away cheaper than he coulod have bought a decent jeep and paid a restoration shop to do the work. $75 an hour adds up FAST!.No doubt it is not even close to correct, at least it isn't like JP magazines butcher job on the Alternate jeep.

That said, it is an amazing example of showmanship and hucksterism  overcoming common sense and lack of research. With the Petty signature, if the jeep is kept in a hermeticaly sealed box for 25 years, he may actually get his money back  eventually.

I want one of those granny low gear shifters myself! Attached to a PTO of course..lol)

Was the lady who sold it the one who won it in a giveaway for some charity? All i got to see was the  youtube preview..

Yep, she won it in a raffle, and said she enjoyed it, but it was "too slow" so she decided to sell it...  :)

If you think that was bad check out this incorrect M-38 that sold for $104,500.00 at the Barret-Jackson auction in 2009. Over on the Gee the fellows had a field day pointing out all the problems with the "restoration". Looks good but not even close to correct (hint: note the Navy lifting rings on an Army jeep).
