Interesting. My bracket is also a repop but for once a "correct" reproduction is not what I needed. I gladly would have used one with longer legs!

I was a little discouraged to actually have to mail order the axe and shovel too. I scoured hardware stores, antique shops, and various estate and yard sales all winter and could not find ones of the appropriate size. Walck's to the rescue yet again....

Certainly is more fun bringing them home on a trailer than watching them get hauled away on one. The M38 on its way to its next chapter in life. It will be missed.

A final family photo

OOOH, SNAP!!! You dog!! I remember drooling over this the first time you spotted it. Now you have a summer driver and a winter driver! It's Karma...You're one of those good guys. Good things happen to good folks! Congratulations.

He gave it to you? Man!

The engine head is WWII or VEC 2A. The radiator might be also. Have you found a serial # yet? What is the block casting #? What's the delivery date?

I'm jealous, but extremely happy for you.

Tim

How did you know that the head was from WWII from the picture? If this is the same Ryan I bought some M38 parts from I have seen this Willys and it is/was beautiful.

Without being able to see the casting number, A fairly quick way to tell the difference between a military (or older) head and a 2A, 3A, M38, DJ, etc. is to look for raised ribs between the head bolts.  No ribs= military or older.  Ribs= newer head.

This is my GPW with no ribs...

This is my 3A with ribs...

Nice comparison photos Tim.

And Skip, yes it's me.  Didn't realize that was you. Good to see you here. How about some pictures of your M38? I want to see where those parts ended up  :)

I have done a little work but mostly still gathering parts. I have sent the fenders and grill out and had them blasted and primed with red oxide and the tailgate and windshield frame will go out soon. I repaired the tailgate. I also bought a repo M38 tub, I just couldn't find one that I could justify spending the money on and still have to repair. I picked up a couple of 225's one running and one with a automatic transmission. I need the auto because of damage to my back from a helo crash I was in. Anyway I will start a thread latter and keep it updated.

By the way there seems to be a lot of Mainers on here.

Yes please do. I'd love to see how much of a job it is to fit an M38 repro tub.
