How do you like that Solex Carb? I'm thinking about buying one for my CJ3A
Patrick, I don't know if you are pulling my leg or really want to know.

I've not heard of many who have a good word for the Solex. I am not one of them. I have had it on for 10 years and have not had any carb issues at all in that time. I had a WO (actually 2) and could never get them work right. Gave up and got the Solex.
All of the jets are easily accessed from the outside of the carb. for maintenance. But the only messing around I've ever had to do is when I was experimenting with different main jets. You can buy main jets from a bunch of suppliers (Google Solex main jets). It comes with a 127.5 but for my altitude, I landed on a 115 for the best performance from 5,000 ft on up to over 12,000 ft. Every couple of years I remove all of the access seats (not really sure what they are called) and blow them all out. It takes 10 minutes. Never seen one with dirt, but it makes me feel like I'm doing something.
The Solex will work well on severe inclines as there isn't a conventional bowl and float set up and when it isn't running very little gas stays in the carb so gumming is little if any over time. They are a modern carb and ethanol seems to have no effect on them. All the gas here has Ethanol.
I get 20-23 mpg cruising. A lot less in 4wd of course. As I recall, when I first put it on I did have some air infiltration near the throttle shaft bushings. I put on better nuts from the hardware store and tightened them better and never an issue since. I think I used those nuts that have the star washer attached. And yes, they are all metric parts.
Like I said, I seem to be alone on this, but given my experience (good luck?), I would stick with my Solex unless I come across a well set up Carter that I don't have to fuss with all the time. I see a lot of guys on these trail rides messing with their Carters.
