Here's where I am now.  Feels like some progress!




The springs and shackles are new (installing those was the real job I did last weekend).  I finished work on the axles last year...

In other news, the engine shop found a crack in the block, into the water jacket under the distributor.  They're going to pin it closed and hope for the best.  They'll also bore the cylinders, as they are slightly scored (as you might expect if you recall the pictures I posted of the pistons a while back).

The tires in these pictures are the old ones--I have not been able to obtain new ones.  (I don't want to deal with importing something the size of tires myself, so I haven't ordered from Walcks.  But I'm not in a rush to get this back on the road.

Awwwww man he has a log cabin and a Jeep!

You have a good foundation Paul, hope to see more progress from you as we all enjoy watching the makings of another Jeep project.

In these pictures, you can't see the cracking in the rubber.  Those tires are easily 30 years old...  I'm not even going to think about using it on the streets without new tires, though it would be fine for fooling around on our land.

I don't live in the cabin.  It's about an hour and a half drive north of home, on 20 acres of bush.  No water, no power.  (You can see my outhouse in the first picture.)  But it's a great place to get away from the city!

It reminds me of the hunting cabin we used to have - completly off the grid but I had the best times there! Nothing bets a warm fire in a pot belly stove. Oh yes and the outhouse, okay in the summer but winter months are tough. Thats all we had in Germany when I was growing up as a child. Now I'm showing my age a little but what great memories. We had a strawberry patch behind the outhouse and everytime I smell strawberries today I think of the outhouse we had - I know I must be a little crazy

County regulations forbid traditional outhouses (and I've actually tried to develop this property by the book).  So ours is built over a concrete holding tank.  You can see it in the top picture.  2x4 construction, fully insulated, proper door and windows (of the type people put on houses), laminate floor, cedar paneling inside, pine on the outside.  (The cedar really keeps down the bugs--there are basically none.)  I put a little propane camp heater (powered off a 1 lb propane bottle) in there in the winter.  Run that for an hour or two, and it's bearable inside.  We tend not to go out there if it's below 0�F.

The logs on the main cabin have a lot of mass and it takes forever to warm up the whole cabin when it's cold out, but it's still nice sitting by the stove, which puts out a huge amount of heat.
