It is hard to see if there is a bracket at the top of that coil spring. �If there is, they might be the helper springs used with the Jeep-A-Trench trencher...

Not sure if that was the intention here on this jeep but with the springs but who knows.

Decided to provide an update pictures wise on were I am at on the jeep. �

Currently I am trying to get all the add on paneling off the jeep so I can get at the bolts and such.




I have a Hadees H 20??? heater.




The orginal fuel tank needs a serious cleaning so I rigged up a gas tank off a dead lawn mower. This was so I could test the engine and drive train for issues. Thought you guys might get a laugh out of it. �;D

That black plug looks like an oily cylinder, which indicates ring problems....You may get it to stop oiling so badly if you run it a while and work it some, or if you give it a Marvel mystery oil or tranny fluid down the spark plug hole soaking....but in most cases it means rebuild time.  If you are pulling the head anyway you will have an excellent chance to inspect the bores and pistons, and see what is up. Finding a large ridge and polished bores that look wavy from excessive wear means it is time for a rebuild. . at minimum I would expect you need a honing and new rings. Max would be boring out and new pistons and rings...

That tub sure is begging for some TLC....what are your plans for it??

Current plan for the tub is complete replacement. Plan on having my local body shop guy removing the dash and transferring that to the new tub so I have the correct dash. I have already did a preliminary pricing on the tub through Willies Overland.

Was doing some cleaning on the jeep and found a couple of spots that were original paint and it looks like Bob's call on Hamilton green is right.

Spent my afternoon today tearing the generator apart and scrubbing the 3 inches of crud off the outside. I was so glad to spend the time out working on the Jeep, I will get some pictures up when I get done cleaning it up, replacing what needs to be replaced and repainting it.   By the way a good de-greaser that is safe on your hand for those of us who do not always use the proper PPE every time we go play with the jeep, is Simple Green.

'Progress' photos are as fun as 'got er cleaned up' photos. 8-)

I like the Simple Green too.  I also used a consentrated Zep degreaser.  It was on the shelf at Home Depot.  Seemed to work pretty well also.

Back at it after letting things sit for over a year do to various things like work, a cold shed and life.
Finished up the Generator and here is a picture of it done.


Valuable lesson that has been mentioned before here that I learned the hard way, take lots of pictures as you take anything apart as you take it apart. Was almost done with assembly and realized that I was not sure where one of the wires went. Took me three agonizing days to figure out the diagrams and get it assembled right.

Was feeling real happy with the final results on the generator and decided to tear into the Starter. This time I am taking lots of pictures.�

Edit: I will say as a note the one mistake I made when painting was I forgot to tape of the oil fillers and the id tag.

One thing I noticed is at some point the PO must have had an issue with the starter or hit some thing high, where it looks like some one beat on the starter and dented this band. Might be hard to see in the photo.



Also my starter was at one point red I think, found this when I took the band off.



That is my progress so far dinner got in the way and since then life but the nice thing, for me is I now have heat in the shed so no longer is it a 2 season project.

That is good to know. Will say I love how simple it is to work on these jeeps with the manual I have it makes thing really easy. Love the fact that if it won't start you track through the starting system, engine rolls over = batter good, Have spark = not ignition system, No fuel situation found.
This really struck home this week when my work car would not start and it was a temperature sensor!!!!!!

Dissembled the starter as far as I dare tonight and got the main casing cleaned up and repainted. It look like all the guts are good and seem to test out okay. So now it is just clean, paint and then reassemble. Did find at least one of the screws have to be replaced do to some one beating on it.

Before and after Pics of the Casing, will still give it a coat or two more before I am done.
