Hello from Barcelona, Spain,

I recently inherited a 1951 CJ3A from my grandpa. The jeep served in the spanish army until 1975, when my grandpa bought it. I spent very good moments in this jeep with my family when I was young. Therefore, as a tribute to my grandpa, I want now to restore the car and return it to its stock state.

The car seems to be very badly treated during the army period, here I write you a list of major issues:
- reconstructed engine
- engine/transmission/transfer oil leaks
- body with lots of holes
- body with lots of poor weldings
- rust in footrest areas
- painted many times
- lots of unoriginal parts (servo-brake added, hand-made electric harness, gauges and switches, lights and other parts from the Spanish maker Jeep-Viasa, and parts from MB/GPW).

During the ownership of my grandpa the car was just painted sand-beige and got new tyres.

I am very grateful of all the huge information available in this forum, which motivated me to start with this Project.

At the time of writing these lines I have already started with the restoration and I can show you some pictures of its initial state and the restoration process.

I already bought some original parts in the USA. It is impressive the ease in getting original parts in a 70-year-old car in USA!

I will need from you some help, since I am an enthusiast in this world, specially installing the new wiring harness and repairing oil leaks.

See lots of unoriginal parts: Wheel, gauges, switches, data plate, �
The car was painted Mr. Bean style! Without using any adhesive strip!

See different paint layers.
Original color seems to be Pasture Green (or Olive Drab?).

Hi Pere,
Welcome. You say your Jeep is in tough shape, but it looks very good to me!
I was in Catalonia (mostly Barcelona) in 2017 and I saw NO JEEPS. I guess they were all hiding!
It's nice to see yours...good luck in fixing it up!

Welcome to the 3A Page.  :) Great story on your 3A.  It looks better than you describe.  I'm certain we all want more information about your 3A.  And more photos.  Close up of the data tag on the dash board and any other data tags or numbers you can find.  Old photos from years back.
 
A CJ3A is rare in Europe.  Learning about the history on this one would be a lot of fun.

Hello,
Yes, this car has been hidden in a garage for more tan 25 years! I'll try to get pictures from some years ago, but before 1975 I dont have anything.
By now I can show you the Serial n� and Engine n�, as you can see in the picture attached.
Serial seems to be: 451-GB1-5#882. # could be 3 or 8. In 1951 the number of cars built was 54158. Therefore I would assume that the right serial is 451-GB1-53882.
Engine serial is 3J136506. This number is quite clear. But from Info taken from http://www.cj3apage.com/index/Serial_Numbers.htm., this engine serial number would be built in 1953.
Do you think my assumptions are right??? Thanks!

I think you're probably right about the serial #.

There are some engine casting numbers on the right and left side of the engine block...just above the oil pan.   Also, there is a casting # on the head.
Can you show us?

Hello,
I just recognized a casting number on the right side above the oil pan: 641087-W-12-D-P5.
Does it mean anything to you?
Where can I find a casting # on the head?
On the other side, I show you pics of current status: frame painted and body sandblasted.
