Hello from western Colorado
« on: December 08, 2012, 03:36:31 AM »
Hi, great page! I have already learned a lot here (like, most of you are going to hate me for what I did to my 49...) Yep I'm going to leave you hanging on that one. But I will tell you that I am in the process of getting some killer gears for my D-18. 3.6:1 from a guy in CA by the name of Jack O'Brien. They are a little spendy but it will make going slow a lot easier. I tried tera lows 3.15 gear set but after breaking them (twice) I found out they wont last behind a v-8, Jacks set should.
ï¿½ How did I get bit by the Willys bug? Well, it all started when I was about 4 or 5. I can remember going to Grandpa's and playing in the '53. We would sit in the steering wheel, straddling one of the spokes and "drive" that old jeep all over the place. When I finally got to driving age (10 1/2) that same jeep was what I learned to drive in. Now I have a slightly modified 49, my great uncles 47cj2a, which he bought brand new, and next month I should be picking up a 3b. Yep I'm bit, but there are worse habits. My plans now are to get the transfer case back in the 49 and just have fun driving it while I restore the 47. The 3b...could get a little wild if my daughter has any thing to say about it. I will get some pics in the next couple of days as its a little late right now(1:30 am).

Q6,

Welcome fellow Coloradan!  Where out west are you?

Hate is a very strong word.  We don't use that here. [smiley=wink.gif] Many may 'prefer' that your 49 stays with the original drive train, but it's your Willys.  Do what you must, but keep it alive and rolling.

Sounds like you have a herd.  Time for the photos. Lots of them.  Note:  The best way for posting multiple photos in one post is to use something like photobucket.com .  Check out some of the threads that talk about posting photos.  They may be helpful.

Again, welcome.

Welcome Jack,

Show and tell time. We need pics of your fleet of Willys.

You must do some hairy rock crawling to break two Terra Lows. We need pics of that too. Even if we don't do that to our Jeeps, we still appreciate what it takes to make one that can crawl crazy rocks.

By the way, have you joined the CJ-3B forum? It's a great bunch just like this one, only with slightly newer Jeeps. ;)
You'll see lots of beautiful 3Bs over there.
Mine's not so beautiful but it runs and pushes snow. What more can you ask? :)
