Rear PTO gearbox cleanup
« on: October 19, 2020, 11:21:08 PM »
This is not a rebuild thread. Just a de-grease and paint.

My 3a, the subject of

https://cj3apage.com/Forum/index.php?topic=1184.0

came with the PTO gearbox and driveshaft and shifter assembly.

The previous owner, who had it since 1959, remembered that they ran a mowing machine with the jeep, in Ohio....

Because I added an overdrive I elected to not re-install the PTO.

I know there is an adapter that allows an OD and PTO, but that's not in the cards.

Well, things change.

Maybe I'll pull the OD and re-install the PTO just for entertainment...or not....there are no hard and fast goals here.

So here are some cleanup pictures. It's a low budget operation.

I'm sure many of you can relate!

Looks good.  Just getting the grease and dirt off is usually a huge improvement for anything!

If you do decide to get the PTO adapter get it straight from Hermtheoverdriveguy rather than from another vendor.  He manufactures them and sells them to the over vendors.  Buying direct saved me $65 when I bought mine.
Searching for time to put it all together...

The last two images looks like the PTO is ready for display on the mantle or the coffee table!

Objet d'art!

But it smells like old gear oil....

It's done and installed. Just an ornament for now....maybe i should have painted it red...looks a little ho-hum in black.....

I noticed the current muffler is in the way if I were to try to install the drive shaft etc....
