Help. Subjective opinions on color choices for Willys top
« on: October 11, 2021, 11:07:22 PM »
Some of you may have seen I'm restoring a Koenig half top.
The Jeeps original color scheme was Luzon Red with wake ivory wheels. I repainted it as close as practical with modern single stage paints. I like it a lot.
But now I'm having a crisis in how to paint the hard top. (this Jeep came to me with this top, and I've spent the whole summer fixing it...and I'm now painting it)

My plan was to paint the entire top the wake ivory color. I'm almost done. But someone close to me said it would look better with Luzon red doors. Oh damn. Now I'm plagued with doubt!

So after some ulcer time, I made up some pictures with different color combos.
I am no hand with editing software, so it's a hack. But if you squint it hopefully gives you the idea.

Which would you choose?

I'm really leaning toward just finishing in all wake ivory...(I'm so close to being done) but if something rises to the top, I'll reconsider...
THanks!
Dave

Good idea!  But I don't see a cream door/luzon top option.....

From your choices, the last with the cream accent on the top looks pretty good.

It's your Jeep, and you have to see it the most, so make "you" and "someone close to you" the priority.  My "opinion" is the middle pic, and not because it is a 'compromise', but for "me", the side view of the top pic is awkward with the color contrast "steps", and not enough white on the bottom pic... again.. "for my choice".  Go for "happy Jeeping" when its done!  It'll look good with any choice... and be proud you did it all!!!

Don’t mix the top color,
All red or all white.
On this particular Jeep I rather like the all white.
I assume this is pre 1953 vintage so a red windshield is good.

I appreciate the comments from diehard Willys folks!
I kind of expected I may get different opinions and that's what I got!
The top is only going to be used in winter months, so it's not like I'll be stuck forever with it....I think what I'm going to do is finish painting it with red doors since that's what's left for painting. I'll put it together and stew on it. If I feel the urge to change it, that's what I'll do. I have enough paint to redo stuff once.

No paint color is harder to cover than red, especially with white.
I’ll cast a vote for the top all white.

MY 2A is Pacific Blue I will be building a full insulated Aluminum top for it this winter. My plan is to paint it Wimbledon White as its a slightly canvas shade of white. I will most likely do some Pacific Blue trim on the top. I see nothing wrong with your choice of solid Red and Ivory.

Mark, I hope you'll start a topic of that "top build" and "pics in progress".  Thanks.  I made a rigid insulated top for under my Bikini Top and didn't take progress pics.  I wish I had now.
