Spare tire carrier ID
« on: June 25, 2017, 08:18:06 AM »
Has anyone ever seen this mount before?  The mounting holes are 5" apart from side to side and 3 3/4" apart top to bottom?  It was directly mounted to the tailgate when I got the jeep.  I just finished welding all the cracks that created!  I was thinking about getting a correct 2a/3a mount and reinforcing the tailgating with an oak panel.  Will this one work?

I haven't seen a carrier with that angle.

Reinforcing the tailgate with wood does work. I have done this...

Keep in mind that directly bolting a 3A style carrier to the tailgate may not offer enough offset, depending on the tires you are mounting. An M38 style carrier moves the tire out and away from the tailgate surface. You might have to shim a 3A style.

I think I'm gonna go with the M38 carrier.  I have to buy a new mount anyway - what's a few extra bucks ;D
