Vacuum Wiper Motor Position

The vacuum wiper motor can mount with the hump up or down, but I wonder what is correct? :-/ I have done a search but it looks like half are mounted with the hump up and the other half with the hump down.

Could be whatever you want I guess?? Just as long as they work.....

Hi George,
If you have the SF616 motor, you install it with the hump...up.

The 3A and, I believe the 3B used the SF616.  The easiest way to tell if you have the right motor is the vacuum connection tube has a little curl.  A 2A, M38 motor etc...doesn't have the curl.  It's straight.  My understanding is that the vacuum internals work backwards in a 2A motor so I'm guessing that you would have to mount it up-side-down to get proper function if mounted on a 3A.

Did any of this make sense?

Speaking of that, my lever is broken on my SF616.  See Photo.  If anyone has an old junker motor that has a good lever, I'm in the market.

Yes Tim that makes perfectly good sense and thanks. My old vacuum motor had a broken lever as well � I purchased a rebuilt one and it came with a new lever thank goodness. My plan was to put both my vacuum wipers on my CJ � I have one with the curl on it and one with a straight tube.

They work so well the thumb levers are worn off or broken. Hummmm wonder why. I need a lever too. If you find a box full of them, I'll take two please! John

Yes both 3A and 3B used the SF 616.
By the way the SF 616 is may favorite of all the Trico motors.
The small chrome swing handle is strong enough to sweep away snow build up yet it is no larger than required.

The Trico assembly with the "U" tube connection goes on the Left side.
The Trico assembly with the straight tube connection goes to the Right side.
Wiper blades park in the middle of the standard type windshield.

CJ-3B with optional ventilating windshield uses exact same motors on the same sides but are mounted above the glass and the wiper blades park outward.

When you have 2 vacuum motors do you just use a tee off the main vacuum hose from the engine? Will both vacuum motors run at the same time with no problem?

Before I go and drill 2 holes in my windshield I would like a good feeling about the process. I have the right side hand wiper just like Tim's rig.

Yes a special shaped brass vacuum fitting was used when the optional passenger wiper was installed.
Because of its shape it is not actually a "tee" fitting.
The fitting was positioned just left of the drivers wiper motor.
