T90 Large hole bearing adapter or small hole

What is the deal with the rear bearing adapter? I bought a full rebuid let from kaiser and it came with a rear bearing adapter plate with an interior hole of 1.75". My stock bearing adaptor has a interior hole of 1.81". I can't get the new one installed because it interferes with the bearing spacer. The old one does not keep the shaft from sliding out because the bearing is not an interference fit with the bearing adaptor. I can't find any info on this. Any help?

I'm not following your question. Can you post a picture or several?

From what you describe the bearing spacer is in the wrong place. The spacer goes in front of the bearing. The bearing retainer plate holds the outer race of the bearing in the housing. Nothing should be sliding back and forth when the bearing retainer plate is held against the housing.

Did you measure the clearance between the input shaft and output shaft as described in several threads here?

Attached is a pic with some text. I think I am simply miss understanding. I tried searching "T90", Bearing Adaptor Plate", "Main Shaft" and other key words but I have not found any info. The t90 rebuilt sheet on this site has been very helpful and it makes a comment about the "Large hole" adaptor plate vs. the "Small Hole" adaptor plate but does not provide much detail.

Any help is very appricated. Thanks.

You may already be aware of this but without the transfer case in place to hold the rear bearing, it and the shaft will slide out the back of the transmission case....in the T-90 rebuild Tech section there is mention of a length of wire to hold everything together until the transfer case is bolted on....

If you got the rebuild kit from Kaiser-Willys I'd sure give them a call too....

Are you sure you have the bearing facing the right way? How about the snap ring around the bearing?� And that shaft and bearing will slide out if either the shift tower is removed or it's not bolted to the t-case or both.

Guys, thanks, that answers my questions. I did have the bearing in backwards and did not have the snap ring in place. Also explans why the pics of assemblied transmission have the wire on end.

I am going reassemble it this weekend and see how it goes.

Yes and when the shaft slides out you will hear all of the little needle bearings fall out and end up in the bottom of the case so don't allow it to happen unless you want some extra practice reassembling everything!

Follow that T-90 Rebuild Guide by Rick Stivers one tedious step at a time and before you know it you'll have a completed transmission sitting in front of you.
