Horn repair

Done some searching but have not found anything on checking or fixing horns. I am fortunate to have a NOS horn hooked up but have 2 horns still around. Might want to play with them as they don't work so nothing to lose by tinkering.I am talking about the flat faced horns not the ones with the funnel on them.

I took mine apart and cleaned it. Mine is the type with about a 2" horn on it, not the really flat ones..

I have more pictures...

The Vernco page is blocked by Chrome and Firefox browsers but Internet Explorer will allow it to load. At least that's what's happening on my computer anyways.

Reload on Firefox then when you get the blank screen, look in the upper right hand corner for a dialogue box with "ALLOW" in it. Click it. I use USPS.com on Firefox and it does the same thing.

I'm a little skittish after getting creamed a while back. I have Mozilla and it asked to allow it but I passed on it. Will probably give it a look now.

Is your horn the type that is bolted together or is it riveted?

If you have continuity through the coil then it's probably just the points that need cleaning or adjusting...

Just pay attention as you take it apart as it needs to go back together  the same way..

I dug them out and I had already looked at one. it is a flat faced Sparton in very poor shape and I had already drilled out most of the rivets. The other is flat faced with a 48 on it and 12v on it. No name that I can see and it appears the outside is crimped on with the face over the rear of case. i will take pics and post them. I remember that I had checked for a reading on the terminals and had hooked it straight up to battery with no results. It's a nice horn and worth checking out.I did look at Vernco site and lived to tell the tale.

Here is the 2nd horn that is unmarked. The screw in the back will not move even with kroil on it and looks like it may have had the body knocked into the threads to keep it from moving.





front center post is definately not meant to be messed with
