Hey all:

Got a trailer load of pieces which are all together suppost to be a '51 CJ3A but the engine doesn't have the number in the usual place on the block.  It's got the small flanges in the back but it has the engine number on the side of the block and it's MB132153.....is that what I think it is?  
And yes....it's gear drive timing.

Sounds like an MB engine converted to gear drive.

Thats what I wondered.  Bob, am I right in assuming that that is how MB engines were numbered. I hadn't done any research on how the wartime stuff was stamped.  The book I have on dating the CJ3's says that the engines were numbered 3JXXXXXX so I figured I might have had something else.

MB engine serial numbers begin with MB and will be stamped on the oval pad behind the oil filter with a block casting number of 638632. CJ-3A engine serial numbers begin with 3J, are stamped on the boss above the water pump and have a casting number of 641087.

New to the forum, correct me if I am not in the right topic area. My 1950 CJ3A is stamped 4T24846 on the water pump boss. I have not seen the "4T" designation refered to before. Any information on this?

Four Cylinder   Truck engine....out of a pickup originally . What year, someone else will have to tell you.  8-)
