Steering column removal

i removed all the brackets holding the steering column in and i am unable to remove the column. id did leave the steering wheel. do i need to remove the steering wheel to remove the column?

The "column" consists of 2 parts, the inner shaft and the outer tube. The outer tube can be removed after the steering wheel has been removed but the inner shaft is part of the worm gear and can not be removed without disassembly of the steering box.

Yes. Unless you cut an enormous hole in the firewall there is no way to remove the steering without removing the steering wheel (Well, technically there is but you don't want to go that route). Having said that, I think we need a better idea of exactly what it is you're trying to do. Do you just want to remove the outer column or the complete steering assembly?

ive got it out. had to open up the steering box to get it out. but at least with all the rust i didnt have to make any holes they were already there.
