IAD-4008 question

The distributor on my L134 engine is not the correct one. I have picked up a IAD-4008 but it looks like there is no mechanism to adjust the timing. Is this normal? If normal how do adjust the timing?
I have included a pic showing one distributor with the adjusting plate and the one in question. I hope the pics come thru.

Bill,
I believe your 4008 should have a bracket around it that bolts to the block - then clamps down on the distributor to keep it in place.  There's an example here:

I suspect Harry Sheets may have one.

Russ thank you for the information.
The distributor that is on my engine is the vacuum advance type, I have not actually seen a complete IAD-4008. Things make sense now.

That one on the left looks just like my Omix electronic diz.  And as Rus says they do have different adjust brackets.

The one on the left was included with the purchase of the Jeep. It has no numbers on it, it is a points type distributor. I�m not sure if it has ever been installed. Just eyeballing it looks like it may be a replacement for this engine.

Here is a picture of the one off my spare distributor.

It bolts to the block and then you loosen the pinch bolt to turn the distributor and set the timing.

If your jeep came with a box of "spares" this is what you are looking for.... ;)

You guys are fantastic. Thanks Randy for the pic.

The spare engine that came with the jeep is a little odd. The thermostat housing is a two bolt, the engine mounts look a little weird, the oil fill tube is very short. The engine s/n is R3J158838. The R is the same type as the rest of the s/n, maybe it signifies replacement or rebuilt. I don't know. I do need to get some pics of it and find someone to id  it. Maybe an air compressor or welder engine.
What I was getting around to is that engine still has it's distributor on it. I will check it for the plate.

Hi Bill,
RJ3 would suggest a later replacement block.  The head may be much earlier.  Can you post a photo of the head?
