Today we went to the Doll House Ruin. It was a long trip over by Dark Canyon, the ruin is in Woodenshoe Canyon. Here's a nice shot of the front of it in a cave.

Here's a shot looking down from the back of it in the cave. The roof is made of sticks and dirt and rocks. Originally it was probably an adobe mud cover that over time turned into the loose soil it is now.

Here's a shot of the roof inside one of the rooms. Calvin said the wood is split pine slats with round beams for support.

Here's the header over one of the doorways.

Here's a shot showing the relative size of the Doll House ruin. I am 5' 11". Considering the structure could be 1500 years old it's in amazing shape. A search on the net said it was probably used as a food preparation site. There isn't any smoke on the ceiling so they had no fires inside and in a cave next to it there is black smoke residue on the ceiling and signs it was used as the cooking area. The long poles in front was probably used to air dry meat and other food.
It was a beautiful place to visit and I bet it got a lot of use in it's day.

Here's a beautiful shot of a canyon wall in Woodenshoe Canyon.

The cowboys were driving the cattle out of the mountain range and had them on the road out of the grazing area. We just drove along the road and the cattle parted as we went.
