My Introduction and my 3A

Figured I would say hi to you all and show you where I am starting. First off my 3a is titled as a 52 but as of right now I have not been able to confirm this seeing as I just reacquired it and have not had the time to really get into the project. I bought it when I was 15 and sold it to my brother when I got married and just this year bought it back after it sat for the last 8 years. Currently I am trying to find a float for the carb. My brother found it had a leak and took it to a guy to get it fixed and the melted it down. It is a carter and most likely is a 539.

That looks like a really nice 3A. �Your serial# does make it a 52. �Here is a pretty neat link to date your Willys.

Where the heck is your fuel line going? �It's suppose to be attached to your Carter. �Maybe that's your problem??? � � �Just pulling your chain. � There are some rebuild kits available for the Carters. �It might be worth the investment.

Well, it's a good project Jeep and since you owned it in the past it's well worth and investment of time and money to get it up and running is more than worth what ever it takes. Having a Jeep with family history is the best of all.

Had some time this weekend and so I was able to get the top off. This has not been take off in 30+ years.
By the way the next person to use flat head screws for putting some thing on a something, should be take out behind the wood shed and beaten with a large stick. It took me almost 6 hours to get all the screws and bolts out. Finally I had to get the Persuader (4pound hammer) out and was forced to remove the screw heads.

  ROFLMAO, yes, I know the feeling. Sometimes people do things with no thought to the future when they want to take it apart or someone else has to do it.

When you put it together use antiseize on the threads. You have a real project there.

That Willys looks like it has been painted every color of a rainbow.  Any idea what may have been the original?

I believe it was a light blue. At one point it was on an air force base in the UP.

Me thinks you had your first "Bubba Moment"   .  We've all gotten pretty familiar with that guy.  Welcome aboard, share your pics, and don't be afraid to ask questions.  We are all just sitting around the house waiting for someone to post a few things so we can get invovled..LOL.

I think we all would try to start it, but Bubba would say, " lets get that gas can off the lawn mower and throw in the back, I'll get some garden hose and hook it up to the carburator while you get that battery out of mom's car, set next to the gas can qnd hook er up with the jumper cables, then we can run her in to town and show, the boys!!!" Never mind that flat tire, I got a spare on the plow we'll use that.

  uhh, yeah, that's what Bubba would do for sure. Short of taking it to town I would change the oil and use a squeeze bottle to squirt some gas into the carb to see if it will run and build oil pressure just for the heck of it. At least the local Bear wouldn't be chasing me home, but the Bear probably knows right where Bubba lives and may be there when Bubba gets home. �;D
