Of radios, retiremant, and recreation.....
« on: January 19, 2012, 08:50:37 PM »
It was suggested that we start a thread to place some of the great pics Rocketeer added to an oil filter thread earlier, so more folks would get to see some of the amazing stuff he has collected.. So, as a moderator, I think I can do this..lol.. To start it off, here's a recent Salvation Army find..

They wanted $45 at the SA store in Davenport IA, (Their scratch and dent store..) It should still be there if anyone wants it..an old Zenith...

Lets see if I can do the thread moving deal now..lol..

How about cut and paste the content or your above post to the other thread and then delete this one?

Here is a link to an article that appeared in our state's electric coop paper. I read the article below and immediately thought of Larry.....

Then, low and behold I flip to the last page and find this little gem for Calvin:

I too have my pilot's license and found this article very interesting!

Here's to having too many hobbies and not enough time! How boring would life be if you had only one?

Thanks,
That was an interesting read about Paul Vance.  Quite a guy.  We need more like him.  When I get out that way I hope he is still there.

If this stuff is boring you guys let me know. I was lucky enough to find one of the radios on my wish list a few days ago. 1936 Philco model 116X, 11 tubes, 5 bands. This one is a keeper. Last October I found one but it had sat outside in the weather for two years making the wood cabinet completely dry-rotted and worthless. Fortunately it will be a good donor if I need any parts while refurbing this one.

This is considered one of the first Philco High Fidelity radios. It uses a pair of 6A3 audio output tubes in a push-pull configuration. The speaker arrangement is unique. It has a 12" speaker mounted on a sound board. Below the speaker is a 12" passive Acoustic Clarifier. To the right and left of the speaker are two smaller clarifiers. The clarifiers were designed to absorb certain frequency resonances off the cabinet thus "clarifying" the sound.

Here's the parts donor.
