A forum is a lot different than face to face discussion. It's easy to misunderstand things and then there are attitudes. Some take it personal when a poster disagrees with something they said or has an opposing way or idea. I have left two sites because the owners of the sites were totally unreasonable and disrespectful to me and others. I don't leave a site because I don't agree with something someone posted and got into a hot discussion about it.
I think the thread that Larry took issue with was the thread about shimming the bearings in the steering knuckle, or so it seems. He never posted after that. I discuss all kinds of hot topics with people online, face to face and email, even with the ones that have completely opposite opinions of mine. Some of them get loud and hostile but I still talk to them and consider them a friend.
On a site that deals with mechanics, machining and such skills you will always find people with different ideas and opinions and knowledge. When a person is telling how to do such and such you really don't know their background or knowledge and only a fool would take everything as gospel. I am a mechanic and machinist but by no means know everything about everything. I post what I know but sometimes what I know is only my experience of it or something like it. That is where a problem can start.
Having done a lot of trouble shooting I don't take anything for granted and I don't trust the results of what someone found and the problem is still there. Trusting others work or trouble shooting results has bit me in the butt so I don't do it.
This is all one can do, post what they know about a subject and not take offense at someone else's experience about it. On occasion I have argued that their way is wrong rather than just saying "I believe your mistaken about doing it that way", I should have just said that and stopped.
I am sorry Larry won't post here and wish he would reconsider. However, since he no longer visits the forum it would be hard for him to know we want him back, unless we post a request on the CJ2 site or PM him.
It's very important to have an open mind and discuss things. An open discussion on the CJ2 site led me to do the metering rod tool test. The reason was, I was getting what I though was conflicting info from several posts. It turned out that it was not as much miss info as miss understanding what was said. I did what I did to resolve my mind, not prove anyone was wrong and I was right and anyone is still free to accept what I found or disregard it and I won't be offended. I wish Larry could have done the same.
