It runs superbly. I just played with it again today. It fires on the third crank and purrs. 120-125 compression across all 4 cylinders. It's a champ.

The motor in my red 3A is tired. Compression on #1 cylinder is 60. The other three are right around 100. For the money I have in this genset robbing the motor and dropping it into the 3A seems pretty appealing. It would keep the 3A running and at my leisure I could have the 3A motor rebuilt if I choose to. I could pull the genset MB motor from the 3A and sell it later on if I wanted too.

I hate to destroy a perfectly good unit but, as neat as they are, these gensets are not in real high demand. The guys that pay any money at all for them intend to rip the motors out anyway. I can't keep it as I don't have the room and my Lowe's Troy-bilt does just as good a job while taking up a fraction of the space.

Decisions decisions decision....

Well, Santa Jeff_M brought me a GoPro for Christmas so I needed an excuse to use it....might as well pull the genset apart. Be warned, that's likely the first of many videos you will be subjected too now that I'm running around with this ridiculous camera in my hands (or strapped to my head....).

The motor was much easier to remove than I anticipated. Took me about 3 hours. I could do it again in an hour....



The generator itself is a beast. It'll go to the scrap yard if I can engineer a way to get it there.



The frame was also slated for the scrap yard but I couldn't bring myself to do it....so now it's a new workbench. Building a workbench to accommodate my vise and drill press was on the "to-do" list this weekend anyways so it's a win-win. The bench still needs some refinements but so far so good.

Ryan that video was awesome, I've been thinking about getting a GoPro, what model did you get?

Also is it pretty self explanatory on how to create videos?

I have the "Hero+". Creating that video actually took longer than pulling the motor but I'm sure I'll get better at it after figuring out the software. Like my Jeep projects it's all trial and a lot of error....

Ryan, when new what was the AMP output of that generator? Was one 15/20 amp duplex reciptical the only plug in?

I really don't know. There were a couple other 220V looking receptacles in additional to that little duplex one but there was also some Bubba breaker boxes and other things. I don't know what the original output was. I do know this may have been record time for me between getting something running and having it completely stripped down to every nut and bolt.

In case anyone was wondering, the electric motor thing tipped the scales at a whopping 680 lbs yesterday at the scrap yard. Beastly.
