Paul in Edmonton AB
« on: April 22, 2013, 01:53:18 PM »
Hi,

My name is Paul, and I live in Edmonton, AB, Canada.

I've had a 1949 CJ3A since 2008. It was purchased from a college friend (actually his dad); they had it since the 1980s when it was bought for my friend to drive himself to high school. They did some work on it back then, including putting in power steering--and a steering column from a Camaro. The owner before that put a reproduction body on it. At some point, the engine was replaced with an older one (CJ2A).

The body is rusted badly (despite being much younger than the Jeep). The brakes are nonexistent.

I have begun what I hope will be a major overhaul. The plan is to replace the body (again) after doing any mechanical work needed. I plan on reverting to a Ross steering box.

There's a bit more (with much more to come) on my blog at http://paulsjeep.blogspot.ca/, including a time delay video of the first day of teardown.

I will have many questions in the months to come, I'm sure.

You've come to the right place! Just so happens, we have many answers! Some of us even have spare parts kicking around that we may want to sell too!

Paul,

Great video.  How did you do that?

Looks like a great project.  Should be fun to follow.

I set up my camera to take a shot every 15 seconds.  You need  a camera that can do that, or an external timer, or a camera that can be controlled through a computer.  Then I took all the frames and loaded them into Microsoft Movie Maker (which is free).  That's really all there was to it.

The timer I was using could only do 99 frames at a time, so there's probably a few points where it didn't capture anything because I needed to reset it.  Also, the front seat seems to come out too easily because I didn't have the camera on for part of the time I was fighting with its bolts.  (My wife was hanging out in the garage with me for a bit and didn't want to be in the video.)

Hi Paul,
I want to join the others in welcoming you to the CJ-3A Page.  Looking forward to more videos and even your questions, not saying that I can answer them, but they will get answered here by members who have a lot of experience with everything Jeep.  This is a great Flat Fender site.

I'm not sure I'll bother with the next phase.  It would be a pretty boring video--you'd see me moving all over the place, tinkering underneath, and then suddenly at the end, the tub would come off...
