Pan alignment pins..

I may have been the last to learn of this but it works great...I didn't think to take pictures of the pan so here is the Model a valve cover...same idea...

Get some longer bolts with the correct threads and cut the heads off...grind a groove for removal with a screwdriver..

Install the pins first and you can slide the pan over with perfect alignment and no sliding around on the gasket...

I'm sure it would work on the transfer case pan...seems like I take that off on a regular basis!

That is so stupid simple.....I feel like an idiot for not knowing this before now!!

Great tip and I can think of at least 7 times over the past year I should have used this..(transmission fluid change on my trucks, new oil pan gasket on the 3A, water pump on a tractor........the list is getting longer...)

I know, should'a thought of it, but didn't!

On the Model A the flywheel is very heavy..63 pounds, and inevitably it is stuck and difficult to remove...and the ring gear is there, so it has teeth..

So when you take the bolts out, you replace them with two of the intake/exhaust manifold studs! The fine thread end is perfect and you have about 3" of tapping and prying before that heavy sucker goes flying...but with the studs there, you are pretty safe!

Haven't tried the exhaust studs on a CJ, but I bet they will be useful somewhere else...
