The after market body parts are not as good as the original metal parts. Use what you need off the 2A for the 3A. There is little difference between the 2A and 3A tubs.

If your a good welder and can smooth out the joints no one will know what you did. Just don't over heat the panels when welding and use lap joints on the panels.

I love this place.  You guys are great.  So glad I found this both before and during my build-up and restomod.

I come from the world of FSJ's, which also have a lot of overlapping parts between the different models and are getting rarer every day.  Over on IFSJA, parting out rigs to keep others going is encouraged, with many having parts Jeeps out in a back lot somewhere.  But there's also a strong contingent of members who scorn those heathens who cut for clearance for their 44" mud boggers.  I just wanted to get a feel for what this community does and try to respect that in my Willys.

For me, this is not going to be a period correct restoration.  The question is more about quality and efficiency.  I will be doing the body work myself, and cutting out a curved rear corner from the 2A tub to patch the 3A tub makes sense because its curve and gauge thickness are already correct (or darn close) when I go to weld it in.  It'd also, for what it's worth, remaining Willys through and through.

In the end, depending on percentages, this thing will be more like a Willys CJ2.64359A.   :D

Use what you want for your jeep, make what you want to try to make and buy other pieces when you need to. 3a's are rarer than 2a's.

You'll find that this group is very open minded when it comes to degree of restoration. You won't get flamed for failing to do a period correct restore using all NOS parts. We understand that each has different goals for his Jeep and vastly different financial and skill resources.

Make your Jeep be what you want it to be and enjoy the process. We'll all be behind you with any help we can give.

It's better to have one good Jeep than two bad, and other folks may be able to make use of parts from the donor tub that you don't use.
