Removing timing gears ?????????????
« on: June 15, 2013, 04:59:26 PM »
I need to remove my timing gears so I can replace my motor mount plate ( The original has been welded in both sides where the actual motor mounts bolt onto the plate )
I have removed the timing gear cover and see in the past new timing gears were installed ;D I have a puller and just need to know the best way to remove the gears & insure I get them back on indexed correctly so as not to throw the timing off :-?
Thank you all in advance for the replys !!!

Here is how I did mine a while back.  You have to be careful with the fiber gear as it can snap if pulled wrong.  When you go to put it back on, the gear is keyed so it will only go on one way on the cam shaft.  The two important things to remember is one, to align the two small dots that are on the edge of both the crank and cam gear to keep the mechanical timing correct. Two, don't tap the gear all with a hammer, pull it on with a bolt, otherwise the cam can tap the seal out of the rear of the engine.  You will have to start it off with a longer bolt because the original bolt used is to too short to reach the threads in the cam when the gear is out.  Then after the longer bolt gets it on a ways, then switch back to the original bolt to seat it home.
