Heartache By The Numbers
« on: August 11, 2012, 06:56:32 PM »
Well I finally got the exhaust installed on my Willys (Buick V6) so I got a chance to hear it run. First time since I picked it up. I didn't know what to expect as it's been sitting for a number of years when I got it. I guess I should have expected it but wish it wasn't true. It's got a lot of knocking going on in the mid to lower end.  :' ( I think it might be piston slap but hard to tell right now. So now I'm on the hunt for another Buick 231 V6 to either swap out or get a re-manufactured short block and just bit the bullet. I could do the rebuild myself but time is a factor for me, and don't know how much I can actually save. Looking through Craigslist just in case but that doesn't seem likely. Anyone know of a good running 231 V6 for sale in No. CA, let me know.

Back when I had a CJ5 with a Buick 231 v6, I looked and looked and looked for a new motor never found one, Ended up buying a good core motor and rebuilding it myself. Ended up selling the jeep before I finished it.

I can buy a reman for about $1100 for the short block. Didn't want to spend the money but may not have a choice.  :-/

How about stuffing in a 252 V-6?
