steering worm gear snap rings
« on: December 16, 2015, 07:00:45 PM »
When I tore down my steering box it was mainly a pile of rust and a few bearings. I am in the process of rebuilding it with new bearings, sector shaft and ball bearings for the steering worm gear. have it all together but no idea about the snap rings used to  hold the race and balls in place. looked on Ebay and other places but no luck seeing what they used. Also my horn wire tube is apparently seized up inside the worm gear also. I have seen no replacements and I don't think the old one would come out anyway. I can just use a button though. Anyone know about these snap rings or where i could find them? thanks

Specialty,

Here is a very good and informative discussion about the Ross steering box.  I studied it prior to rebuilding my first steering box.

I had no retainer rings in mine.  I was glad to see they are not required for good steering function, and are simply an assembly aide.  You can assemble the box without them, but you will need to know a few tricks.
