Retirement and '3A

I'm retiring tomorrow from my telephone company engineer position.

I drove my CJ3A to work on my first day at this job 1991.

I will drive it to work on the last day at this job.

I don't know what state you are located in but there are many get togethers that are fun.

The Cheap Jeep event in Kentucky sounds like fun as well. Check out the get togthers on this forum and the CJ2A page.

Really cool though to ride off in the Jeep on the first and last day. I may do the same in May!

I was staring into the sun, so my expression is a bit "odd". 

The 3A is mostly stock. The non stock stuff is the roll bar, seat belts, 12V electrical system, locking hubs, an overdrive...oh, yes, a Detroit Locker in the rear axle and a Dana Powr Lok in the front axle. The latter two things have surprised more than a few people. :-)

Driving to work, I did not slow down the traffic.....Rush hour traffic in Phoenix, AZ is such that, even on the freeway, I never got the Jeep out of 2nd gear.

20 years ago, I bought my wife a 1964 CJ5 that she drives quite a bit so we will be able to go exploring in the desert.�

A breakdown in the desert could be life threatening, so I have rebuilt the mechanical/electrical stuff in both Jeeps and have done all that I know how to do to make them as reliable as possible.....

Does that rack hold the spares and gas cans? Looks like maybe it folds?

The rack does hold the gas cans, but does not fold.  It will hold the spare tire, but doing so apparently puts a lot of strain on the tabs that would normally just hold the tailgate closed when the chains are in place.  When I got the Jeep, in 1988, I noticed those tabs bending, so I fixed that and just put the spare tires in the bed.

I bet not too many people can claim driving same vehicle 1st day and last day,  in a long career like that.

I'll bet on that first day of work back in '91 your coworkers wondered what kind of guy they'd hooked up with. :-?

Now 26 years later they have their answer...about the coolest guy ever!   8-)

As a fellow retiree... my 3A is great enjoyment. Go out and enjoy. There is a whole world out there.
