MB GPW and M38 stamped?

Hi,

Does M38 are stamped with Willys logo somewhere?

The GPW has a Ford script stamped on the back, does the MB has also a Willys script stamped somewhere?

I saw a lot of jeep salad in show lately here and I found hard to make the difference.
I'm now good to pointed out an CJ3A or 2A beeing militarized but for real military jeep I still need to learn more.

I always though that no Willys logo was applied on a military model. Does Ford has a special authorization?

I know just enough to make an *rear end of myself.

The original Bantam BRC-40 had no markings.

Very Very early "GP" had the FORD on the rear.  Some of the VERY early GPWs had the FORD on the back.

The MA had a WILLYS on the front of the hood.

A VERY early MB will have a WILLYS on the back.
 
My understanding was that very early on during WWII, the US government didn't think it was appropriate to 'advertise' while on the battlefield.  All FORD and WILLYS script was banned.  Thus, later MBs and GPWs will not be marked.

I have an M38 and the only thing stamped are "M"'s on the frame.  Nothing on parts.  The only other marking is the 'Jeep' stamp on the forward face of the toolbox.

Thanks. So if I saw a jeep on sale for a good price with a script ford on the back, then I'll buy it.

I will do more research on G503 and MVPA and maybe do a webpage with those difference between each model. Or I will add more details on the one that we already have between a CJ3A and a M38.

I thought I heard somewhere that the Ford GPWs had a script F stamped on some parts (out of sight to the casual eye) to distinguish them from the Willys version.  Anyone confirm that?  (I have a neighbour with a Ford GPW--if I seem him, I'll have to ask...)

Mostly unrelated, the German army surplus Iltis (probably from the 80s) that my brother bought--the Canadian army used the same thing, but you can't buy them as surplus--had a nice VW logo on the grille.  Exactly the same as on any other VW car, but black instead of chrome.

Very early Ford GPWs have a Ford Script very similar to what you'd see on a pickup truck tailgate of the era, but small, on the lower left corner of the rear panel. As was mentioned above, the Willys had a block "willys" there for the same time period. The government did not like the "free advertising" and had the makers drop that particular feature on all military vehicles.

All Ford GPWs have many script F stamped parts. The most noticeable one is the large F visible on the top of the front crossmember, viewable thru the grille.  However Ford was allegedly concerned with warranty issues and did not want to warranty Willys components, so most of the jeeps parts have been marked somehow to identify the parts as Ford issue. (Many of these parts in the supply chain got sold off to places like Crown and Warshawskys and got sold as replacement parts for all universal jeeps, so quite often people find F marked parts in their Civilian jeep.
(Some parts also made their way into the factory supply chain and got installed in early 2A production.)
The M38 would have has a Willys data tag and perhaps a Willys marked head, but no other special markings I know of. (I am not a M38 guru so maybe there are some I don't know about.. you might need to check with the military jeep sites for a definitive answer.

As far as jeep salads go, they repop the script rear panels and make scripts you can install in your own panel, so anything is possible.
