New old license plate
« on: November 25, 2011, 11:45:34 PM »
In Ky if you have an antique vehicle license plate you can also display a license plate for the year of manufacture. My son bought me a 1951 license plate for my Jeep and it's the one on the left in the photo. He said license plates for Spencer county for 1951 are almost non existent so he got this one.

Nice.

I'm looking to get one here in Tenn.  However you can run with the old plate only here.  Its just tough finding them for a decent price.  They run about $100 for a 1951 Tenn.  But they sure look sweet.

You can do the same in Ky if you carry the real plate in the vehicle. I put both on so I would have holes for both if I want to run one or both. They seldom stop old vehicles anyway but the plate with all the 0's may catch their attention. I know most the cops here and we wave at each other as we pass. I think they like seeing the old Jeep driving around.

I didn't ask what Richard paid for the plate but I suspect it wasn't cheap.

Matt,
ï¿½That's a great "Post Card" photo of your 3B, your dog, and the beautiful woodlands.  It actually looks like you have enabled us to step back in time to the year 1954.  Thanks.

ï¿½In Utah you can license your old vehicle using a state-issued plate the same year as the vehicle. Here we are required two plates, front and rear. Got them from a plate collector--$100 for the two. I have only installed the rear plate. No one has ever bothered me about the missing front plate. All the cops know me around here.

ï¿½The collector had two sets of 1949 plates. I chose the one with the 3A.

Matt, that's a wonderful photo of your Jeep and dog. You have a very nice looking Jeep there and the dog fits right in.

Very neat Calvin!  Any idea what the 3A stands for on the license plate?

The small number and letter on the old Utah plate identified a county in the rural areas and a certain division of a county in the urban areas.

8-) I just found the Alabama Antique license plate I took off my Jeep when I bought it. I may hang it on the Jeep with the others or hang it on the wall in the shop. Wouldn't it bugger up the minds of the local police with three plates on the Jeep ;D.

I don't know Carl, that might be asking for trouble.  Like putting on a bumper sticker that says " Bad cop, no donut!"

Yeah, I don't plan on doing it. They are friendly right now so I don't want to make them mad. :)
