"Original"-- Technical Questions, Answers, Observations / Vacuum Wipers
« on: December 17, 2010, 11:34:24 AM »
I have an F head with a double pump for fuel and vacuum wipers. The problem is I get no suction from the double pump for the wipers. On the intake manifold I have a place for a vacuum line. I currently have it plugged. For proper hook up does the vacuum line go from the intake to the double carb/vacuum pump and then to the wipers? I dont know why the carb/vacuum pump would have 2 ports. There is only 1 line going to the wiper motor. Thanks - George

Thought that I would try this for the Fall Color Tour to get more power up the mountains. Hope it helps but I will convert it back to original when I get home.

Electrical Systems / Volt Gauge or Amp Gauge
« on: January 06, 2015, 10:34:38 AM »
When converting to 12V alternator is it necessary to change the amp guage to a volt guage? Reason I ask is that I read somewhere that you have to reverse the connections on the amp guage so it reads properly when charging - and I already purchased the amp guage. I have given up looking for a 12V generator at a reasonable price.

Thanks,

George

Gearboxes and axles / Clutch Grabbing / Jumping
« on: August 02, 2017, 03:09:51 PM »
I noticed the other day that when I shift to reverse or 1st gear my Jeep jumps (shutters) when I release the clutch. Since it is only 2 years (restoration) old I don't think its a bad disc. I have not tortured the clutch/transmission on hills or pulling.

I think I may have had a leak and oil got on the disc. From what I read I need to replace the disc. Guess you can't get the oil off the disc.

This sound about right to ya'll?

Gearboxes and axles / Selectro Hubs

I would like to rebuild these hubs and I was wondering if anyone had information on a source for O'rings and screws. These are in really nice condition minus a few of the items I have underlined.

Thanks

Engine compartment / Air text Fuel Pump Issues
« on: May 03, 2016, 09:42:32 PM »
I decided to go with a single pump fuel pump on my 3A. The first pump I got from RockAuto was an Airtex pump. Immediately I knew the this pump was defective since the top bolt holding the diaphragm cover was not seating properly. I think they must have drilled it at a slight angle causing a massive leak at the top cover when I cranked the engine over.

I returned it about a week ago and today I got my new pump. Everything looked good until I turned the engine over and gas squirted out both weep holes. This is an indication that the diaphragm internally is leaking. Now I'm getting frosted! This is the last time I buy Airtex fuel pumps. I think Scoutpilot has some pumps for sale. I'm going to call him tomorrow.

Buyer beware!

Engine compartment / Electric Fuel Pump Addition
« on: January 16, 2016, 07:54:47 AM »
This year I will try to avoid dealing with vapor lock issues at the FCT. All my fuel lines are insulated so I know this is not the issue. I have a low pressure electric fuel pump that I would like to put in line. My plan is to only turn it on when needed like climbing hills or the first sign of sputtering. I plan on mounting it just as the line comes out of the gas tank. I will still use the mechanical pump. Anyone see any issues with running this setup?

Toggle switch or push button switch?

Engine compartment / Fan Blade Question
« on: December 01, 2015, 03:56:23 PM »
Has anyone ever changed their stock 4 blade fan to a 5 or 6 blade? Wondering what the positive or negative results would be. I was just thinkling about pulling more air thru the radiator. I currently have a shroud but again just wondering.

BODY and trim / New 1pc. wrap around canvas
« on: August 01, 2017, 09:35:01 AM »
Thought you might like to see what my son made for me recently. I had purchased a bikini top last year but got wet and froze on the FCT. Not anymore!

Check out the new doors and 1 pc. wrap around curtain. I still need to put the common sense fasteners in the canvas but I am really happy with the design. The doors have no metal frame so I can just strap them in place when I want them open. The doors zip to the 1pc curtain. I will get some more detailed pictures as soon as I finish the fasteners.

Just saw where Ebay has a 13 pc. top bow set for $115.20. This comes un-painted, would make a great stocking stuffer!

Does anyone have the dimensions for the seat bottoms (made of plywood) for drivers side and passenger side? I think they are the same but just thought I would ask.

Thanks,

George

Willys photo and story threads... / Big Bend Texas Road Trip
« on: March 28, 2019, 01:24:14 PM »
I thought that I would start this topic early. We are headed out to Fredericksburg, TX and then Big Bend National Park in April, and yes I am taking the Jeep. We will start off doing Old Willow Loop to view the Texas Bluebonnets. Then its off to Ft Davis TX and then Big Bend to do some old trails. I have always wanted to take a ride in the back country but never had the vehicle to do it in. A lot of the area you must have 4WD or you are in trouble. This is mostly desert so not a lot of trees like the fall color tour. I will be posting pictures as I am able (if I can get internet access). If I am not then you will have to wait till the end of April to see the highlights.

Stay tuned my friends...

Rambling, Malarky, Rants, Etc... / Winch for Car Trailer
« on: December 01, 2016, 02:09:35 PM »
Received my local Harbor Freight adds today and I saw where they have a 2500 lb winch for $60.00. I was wondering if this was big enough to put on my car trailer to winch up the CJ.
