Gearboxes and axles / Re: Prop shaft flange u bolts mismatch
« on: November 27, 2019, 11:51:33 PM »
Thanks, Oldtime. Carl Walck had a NOS 926816 yoke at a reasonable price. Needs only a 3/8" spacer (which I made on my lathe) between the yoke and the pinion washer & nut.  Will put in a new seal also, when the weather is more cooperative. My Pennsylvania garage is unheated, so will work on items that can be carried into my heated workshop, until warmer days.

My CJ3A is a 1949 that I am restoring, with good title, but I do not have any 'extra" title. I am in western Pennsylvaia. Still looking for the A1674 distributor clamp.

Buy, Sell, Trade / A1674 Distributor bracket
« on: November 13, 2019, 01:37:04 PM »
For a IAD4008 distributor, I need the clamp style bracket  that has one bolt into the motor block and a second bolt that clamps the bracket around the distributor body where it slides into the block. Willys part # A1674. Willy called it an 'advance arm' (used to lock the distributor rotation after setting the dwell). I have also heard it referred to as the distributor mounting bracket. It apparently was used on other auto-lite Wllys distributors too.  Anyone have one needing a CJ3A to call home?  Thank you

Engine compartment / Re: Block Fissure/hairline fracture

I had similar problem, except the fissure was below the distributor mount. Ground a small V along the fissure, and tried to silver solder the V notch. Unfortunately the  fissure just extended longer. Eventually gave up, and used JB Weld over the entire repair. Have not run motor yet, but obviously hoping for success.

Engine compartment / Initial distributor installation 'clocking'

When installing a rebuilt distributor in a rebuilt engine, what is the proper 'clocking' of the distributor before start-up prior to being able to use a dwell meter?  Thank you

Terrific! Progress is being made. Now to get the part number or original application of a 26 pinion shaft splines yoke with the 1-3/8 x 2-7/8 u bolts spacing.  And, depending upon how uncommon it was, where to source it? Thanks oldtime  and others who may chip in.

Both axles are 4.27 ratio.   What is a 1310 yoke? A yoke change would probably be the simplest solution if the pinion shaft fitment of the replacement was identical to the stock one but with the larger bolts spacing. Part number or application for the replacement?? Thank you

Gearboxes and axles / Prop shaft flange u bolts mismatch
« on: November 04, 2019, 12:24:49 PM »
The Spicer 25 front axle in my CJ3A has been replaced with a 27A from a 1969 CJ5. Unfortunately the U bolt holes spacing on the prop shaft used with the 25 of 1-3/8" & 2-7/8" is not compatible with the U bolt spacing on the 27A pinion flange of 1-3/8" & 2-1/4"
Has anyone ever solved this mismatch, and How?  Part # and source(s)?  Thank you

EVERYTHING ELSE, General tips / Re: Body mount frame extensions
« on: May 12, 2019, 03:23:00 PM »
Sorry Jeepers, I should have originally stated the front pair of extensions are 7-1/2" behind the front spring rear hanger and the rear pair are above the rear spring front hanger.
athawk11: your purpose description of the extensions sounds right-on. The top of the extensions is the same as the top of the frame rail, and make the overall width of the frame with extensions 59-3/4" My 3A came  with a non-original body that is 60-3/8" wide so they are in fact supports for the outside sides of the body. My original question was based on not finding them in the parts manual to identify them by name and number. Now having seen hat chanels as used on MB is better's these are body supports just done in a different manner. Since they are separate bolt-on pieces I would have thought they should have been shown/identified in the parts manual. Thanks.

EVERYTHING ELSE, General tips / Body mount frame extensions
« on: May 09, 2019, 10:15:12 PM »
What is the proper name & part # for the bolt-on side frame brackets, 2 each on each side of the frame extending outward. They are a stamped u chanel 15" long, 4" high where they bolt onto the side of the main frame rail tapering to 2" high at the outside end. I don't find the listed or shown in the parts manual in either the frame or body section. Where can I find them listed/shown?  Thank you
