Hi Derek, it’s actually on the dilapidated CJ3B list from a few years ago

Managed to get some time off work this summer and went on a little road trip to Moab and Arches national park.
Left Edmonton area on Sunday the 3rd of July, All told it was around a 4300 km trip through some beautiful county. No major issues, a nut came off my alternator mount, and I had a hose come off my intercooler. Easy fixes.
I wish I could have stayed a couple extra days in Moab, but as I was by myself I didn’t want to take the chance of breaking down on a trail. I did do Gemini bridges so at least I can say I did go wheeling while I was there.

i used calipers from a 2015 and up ford fusion when i did my rear disc conversion. Works pretty good. if you have access to a place that does plasma cutting i can send you a cut file. My cost for 6 brackets was 70 Canadian. wiring is simple, just a double pole double throw switch and a five amp breaker.

Well, got off work early so I managed to brave the traffic to Costco to fill up with premium. Ran pretty good once I figured out that I had a plug wire off.
Not sure what the hp rating is on my particular setup, but I had it up to 40% throttle and had to back out of it. Should be no problems on the hills now. Couple pics of the engine compartment here. I’ll still need to disassemble and paint everything, but that can wait

Thanks, I actually used to be a pipe welder and fitter, can’t do that anymore. I don’t mind doing it a bit in my garage. I bought mandrel bends so it was pretty easy, if a bit expensive.
I’m off to buy one last coupler for my intake then it’s time for a test drive.

I had a fellow do me up a tune for the old version, I’m going to get him to do one for the turbo version. Once that’s got a few miles on it I might shell out for dyno time.
Cheers

Thunderbird turbocoupe 2.3 actually.
I was relatively happy with my 2.3 swap, but the lack of power really showed itself on my trip to the mountains last summer. Had a week off work so I decided to swap in the turbo long block I had.
You really should use a turbo engine, they have forged pistons, lower compression heads, and an oil drain in the block.
Aftermarket header was used, stock location put the turbo into the firewall. It’s still a tight fit, especially since I decided to run 3” exhaust. Apparently the less back pressure the better for turbos.
I’m using an ihi turbo from an 87 turbocoupe, they come on at lower rpms than the alternative, however they run out of steam around 4500 rpm. Shouldn’t be an issue for me.
I’m also using an intercooler from the turbocoupe, although that added a set of challenges. It’s a tight fit under the hood.
I’m fueling it with the tbi Holley sniper 2300 that I had on before, it’s not designed for blow through but can be made to work, at least up to 10-14 lbs of boost. I’m limiting my boost to 10 psi. This should give me around 150-170 hp at the wheels, enough to maintain speed on the hills anyway.
( previous projects have been upgraded brakes)
If anybody is interested or have any questions feel free to ask.

Thanks everyone, i'll check them separately. I appreciate the help.
i need to redo my exhaust anyways, maybe i'll add a drop out section to make it easier

Yes, I swapped it in from a cj6 a few years ago. I pretty much never use first gear, but use second as its synchronized. Not sure if I’d bother swapping it now

Excellent, thanks for the tutorial. I used to have a handle on this technology stuff, but it seems I’m falling by the wayside. I’ll try and edit the posts so it’s easier to read.

Edit. i managed to upload the  travel lapse to YouTube.

I’m sure I used to know this, but do they share oil? It’s a pain to access the t case fill on my b, just wondering if I can overfill the transmission a smidge.
Thanks, Dave

On the way home roughly 1250 kms later, one broken shackle and a cooked fan relay later.
Kids had a blast, mine fell asleep a couple times while driving.
We’re planning on making this an annual trip ( to different locations)

I have some videos I took with a garmen dash cam I’ll post up once I figure out how to download

More scenery

Last nights Bush  camp on crown land. Every campground was completely full in Nordegg, we ended up going around 30 k south on gravel to the north Saskatchewan river. Found a spot on the riverbank

Down the parkway. Incredible scenic, so much that I hardly took any pictures at all.
