I have 20 ton bottle jack and carry a piece of plywood 12" x 12" , 2 - 4x4x12" and 2-2x4 1 foot long. I have a HI lift also 48 inches disassembled in the cab if I need it . It only takes a minute or two to put together.

Why do I have a 20 ton bottle jack ? I have several laying around  that I used to level house's with.

Any 2 to 20 ton bottle jack will work with a couple of pieces of wood. One day I will probably buy a smaller one but for now I use what I have.

Thanks for all the replies, I will look into the full floater axle kit.

The price would be about the same as buying a trailer but I would not the upkeep-tag and storage problem.

Thanks for the feed back. It gives me some more options to think about.

Gearboxes and axles / Flat Towing

I have read all the post I can find on flat towing. There are several places I would like to take my CJ3A but the Interstate is the best way to get there. I don't like driving the interstate in the jeep but would not mind towing it at 50-55mph

I am only talking about a hour each way.

Has anyone tow with the jeep backwards on a tow dolly ? With the hubs unlocked, steering wheel tied off nothing should spin but the front wheels. I know I can remove the back drive shaft and tow it frontwards but I don't like taking the driveshaft off and putting it back on that often.

I have been looking for a trailer I can afford but don't really have a place to keep one and am just looking at different options and a dolly takes up less space.

just for information, I bought a 47 cj 2a cheap years ago that had a bad death wobble over 20 mph. checked everything I could think of and finally solved the problem by tightening the u bolts for the front axle to the springs. They were tight already but I put a pipe on the braker bar and really  tightened the and solved the problem. I really miss that willys.

Good, jeeps down here are not as common as other states. People don't retire and bring them to Florida or they get chopped into making buggies.

That is for sure, I looked for a long time before I found what I was looking for

I had a 47 CJ2A in my twenty's blew the motor and sold it like a fool. I always wanted another Willys so after many years I found a newer model, a 49 CJ 3A . It was completely rebuilt from the frame up by a guy over a few years, his heath declined and he had to sell it. By luck I got it. I only had to do a few miner things to it. The engine and running gear are all rebuilt but original, a new willys body. It is converted to 12v and has electric wipers and rear turn signals. Other than that it is stock. I could not be any happier than a pig in the mud.
