Engine compartment / Gpw vs cj3a
« on: January 31, 2018, 06:47:09 AM »
What's the difference between the Gpw and cj3a motor? My friend has a gp3 motor he will sell me for 350 with standard bore. It was in his 52 cj3a. I think it was swapped into it at some point.

Took the pan off. I'm not sure what the person was thinking. I found out why my motor was knocking. Spun rod bearing. Look like they used 2 bearings stacked together. And they pistons been bored .60 over aready. I'm setting here debating on trying to find another block that's had not been bored over.

I got the motor tore out. It's gona be a big expense or over haul
so it be a while before I can get it running again. One the good note. The clutch was recently replaced. It's still fresh.

Here what i have done so far. The wiring is complete disaster. Will have to order a complete wiring harness for it. Will need new guages and lots and lots of body work. The frame has lots of surface rust but no holes. Its in good shape. It will take lots of time since i dont have the income to do this quickly. Got to save up for even the small stuff. But in the end I will be happy that I restored a CJ3A to call mine.

Got this gem for a reasonable price. It was running when I loaded it on the trailer. I got a lof of work to do on it. First is to rebuild the motor. It knocks under load. I got the front end tore down. And will be pulling the motor soon. Will upload pictures as I can get computer access.

Hello everyone, my name is andrew, I picked up a 1950 CJ3A yesterday. It's in fare shape. I'm in the process of pulling the motor today it ha's a severe rod knock. The body will need a lot of patching. Transmission won't go into 3rd gear. But it was drivable. Leaking oil pretty bad. Hope to find help here restoring it.
