Engine compartment / Re: head stud removal
« on: October 27, 2019, 05:54:31 PM »
Well, tried the torch to break the seal of the Loctite and no luck there.  Possibly I didn't get it hot enough but I didn't want to press my luck with a newly rebuilt engine.  Oilly, the block had not been decked by the engine builder and now I think I know why...he couldn't get the studs out either!  However I am pretty confident the deck is flat as I never had an issue with the head sitting flat on it before.  All I was wanting to do was to install some long studs in a few places for lifting and for oil filter attachment points.  I can make do leaving it as before so no problem.  Last thing I need is a broken head stud.  Thanks for your input!

Are you saying this engine has been newly rebored without removing the head studs first?

Those look like standard Kelesy-Hayes jeep wheels. What is a "Motor Wheel"?

Classic Enterprises makes a wheel arch repair panel that might work well if you are interested in restoring your tub.

I used that wheel arch in my last restoration. It was very well made and fit perfect.

Anyone can read the manual. They that wrote the manual did not have the real world experience of 70 years of Willys torture. What the engineers decided was proper at the time but experience teaches us different. I welcome the new ideas.

Then there's the possibility it was simply personal choice. Some people want things for no other reason but "I want it". Maybe they though it looked better with two wooden strips, one on each side. People do thing for odd reasons and 50 years later we're left scratching our heads...

maybe it's not a 1951...Lets see some pictures.

In order for a pump to work it has to have a one way valve. So your fuel pump does have a one way valve.

The last master rebuild kit I purchased had a counter shaft that was soft. It's a bearing surface and should be hard.

Hey guys,
No updates yet on the noise, just a question, in review I have a T90 with a Dana 18 transfer case. In that I have the opportunity to make an upgrade here, tranny out, diagnosis, potential problem... I'm just wondering if you guys have any thoughts on upgrading to a 4 speed transmission and which one would you select? I was thinking about adding an overdrive as long as I have this apart, but maybe a 4 speed would be a better way to go.

Thoughts, ideas, criticism welcome.

High gear in a 4 speed is the same as high gear in a three speed.

Your compression is fine. Rebuild your carb.

I have found the brake light switch that is sold to fit Willys are crap, all of them. Buy a switch made to fit a Ford. You'll have to change the wire ends but the switch will last.

I just installed a brand new switch from Quarter ton and military jeep parts. It leaks where the plastic meets the metal. JUNK SWITCH!

My 1950 CJ3A has the filter with no straps and It takes the 4 1/4" gasket.

How do you intend on stopping the undercarriage rust If you clog up the anti-rust spray?
