I think I will put it in my Red 53 3A.�  I am not sure if it has the hardened seats.  I will have to clean some carbon off before I can see.   A lot of the later replacement blocks did have the hardened valve seats, so it is possible.  �I will document the progress with a lot of photos but I am not going to write another book.� That was a lot of work.� �I saw the other day that it had been viewed 17,500 times.� I thought that was pretty neat.�

Thanks Athawk.� I changed the link.� I am glad you found some use of the site.� �I have become quite an accomplished mechanic in the last 15 years.� �I took some time off the jeeps and built a 1960 corvette and a 327 Chevy and just finished a 1967 Chevelle SS with a 4 spd Muncie and a 489 CID BBC.� �But I always like the jeeps the best.� �If I can ever assist someone with any mechanical questions, I would be happy to help out.� � I also have a few jeep engine parts I will give away or sell real cheap if anyone is interested.� �

I always wanted to build the perfect L Head rebuild but I could never find a great block.  I have bought several blocks over the recent years, sight unseen, only to discover that they were cracked on the outside by the distributor, had stripped bolt holes, had cracks between exhaust valves and water jackets or worn out cylinders.   I thought I had found one perfect block with a factory size bore until I got it home and saw that the seller had smeared grease in the bores to hide the fact that two of the cylinders were pitted.    All of these blocks would be usable with some special preparations from a machine shop, but not what I was looking for.   I am very excited because I just came across an awesome find.  I just bought a block of the internet from Wisconsin.   I knew nothing about it.  I paid $99.00.   It cost my five times that to have it shipped to Florida.  Anyway, I just disassembled it last Saturday.   This block looks like new inside.  There is not a stripped bolt hole anywhere, no cracks, never rebuilt, no rust other than normal scale in water jacket, it still has its original pistons, and the cylinder bores are factory 3.125" and it may be possible after I finish measuring it out to reuse the standard bores with only a light honing.   Fingers crossed.   So I am really excited about rebuilding this motor.   It happens to be a later replacement engine from the serial numbers which means that it has the stronger reinforcing  at the rear bell housing mounts.

I just renewed my membership.� I was a very active member starting about 12 years ago on the old site.� �I have not been on the site for about seven to ten years.� �I am going to be building a couple of engines and have some extra parts so I thought I might check back in.�
