Chassis, brakes and suspension. / Re: Body mount brackets

Well, perhaps I can find a used one before enlarging those holes... not that I'm a purist but if I can have something that is correct I won't have to butcher this frame further.

Buy, Sell, Trade / ISO one body mount bracket (outrigger)
« on: June 14, 2022, 03:44:44 PM »
Getting my frame ready for paint - noticed that both front body mount brackets are a bit different from the rest of them, different mounting hole spacing - instead of enlarging those holes I'd like to see if anybody has at least one front bracket (used) available - the ones on the market today all have same hole spacing and won't work. Not that I'm a purist but I'd like to do things the right way. Let me know what you've got.
Photo is of the aftermarket bracket aligned to holes in the frame.

I'm putting the frame back together and just noticed that new body mount brackets (front two) won't line up with the holes in the frame - I do have one original front body mount bracket and in comparison to the new ones neither holes to mount to frame or hole for body mount bolt line up - go figure - should I just replace those and enlarge the holes for new bolts to go through and then worry about the body later? How did you guys do that, especially the ones that replaced body mount brackets on their frames during reconstruction?

I am working on disassembly right now... Had a heck of a time taking the steering apart and ended up removing steering box with the shaft as I can't get the shaft out of the tube... 35" sounds about right though - my shaft with warm gear is 41.5" and still stuck inside the tube.

As Ryan said it's a replacement engine. It would have been a short block made in approximately the late 1950s.

What are the numbers and letter cast in the block on the drivers side down low near the rear?
all I've got on the left side is 12 and T

"4LRxxx" would make it a replacement block.

Really? Very interesting. I'm still going to attempt the engine revival process even though I suspect that it has been sitting with it's head off for a while.

Thanks,

"Original"-- Technical Questions, Answers, Observations / L134 Engine ID
« on: September 23, 2015, 12:35:33 AM »
I have started cleaning all the goo off the engine today so I can start tearing it apart just to check if it is salvageable and discovered that the engine does have an M38 casting on the block and head. Block casting is 804 380 and head is 800376. Serial number is 4LR136591. Can you help me ID this engine? I'd like to see if I can find out where it came from.

thanks,

Gearboxes and axles / Re: D44 Locker what is possible

It's just a matter of getting used to it... I know your Willys will behave differently since I drove a Bronco with rear Lockrite locker for 8 straight years... it pulls and pushes in turns and wheel spin on wet surfaces is annoying too and that "bum" when it clicks on... matter of preference I guess.

I was thinking about dipping it all in diesel for a few days. Mine is just the same, sitting dry in the desert heat didn't really mess things up too much... but still...

So this means that rusty heart of my 50 3A can still be salvaged? I will attempt taking it apart to see how the inside looks - it is frozen and it had been baking under Arizona sun for the past 30 years...

This gives me hope.

I have taken the leaf packs apart and found this... Any idea if this kind of spring was ever used in a Willys? Only one spring like this.

I don't know anything about these from India but I have a set removed from a 3A frame that I don't need. PM sent.
Thanks Dennis! Package arrived and now I can get going on my project once again.

I have found these on ebay - some guys from India are selling these. Brackets look a lot like that ones for a 3A... and I need one for driver side. What is your take on this?

purfect! that's what I was thinking about. Thanks! I was browsing your posts over on the CJ-2A page forum to no avail - this is most likely the way I will go instead of rebuilding the front parts of the frame - I'm going for the MB look anyways...

thanks again... ordering gussets and an MB style front bumper.

Dre, Check out Walck's they have frame rails 18 inch and 48 inch.
I know... for 2A and I'm dealing with a 3A here. It's ok. I was just wondering if anyone tried to install front bumper using the gussets just like MB - especially the ones that converted their 3A's to MB.
