Thanks for all the info. Iam  going to call walcks to see if that's the correct length . Iam also going to make a firewall cable clamp and see how it helps my problem. Al

Thanks for the pictures, mine didn't  have the clamp on the firewall. I will give it a try,but if I clamp the housing at the cross member and at the firewall, how does that take up the cable slack?  Al

The cable has a threaded rod on one end and a ball on the other end. It is 44 1/4 in long. The housing is 32 3/4 in long.I the ball end in the brake handle and the other threaded end to a threaded yolk that connects to the e-brake lever.I stabilized the housing to the tranny crossmember.should I stabilize the housing somewhere else.Iam having trouble posting a picture. Help!! I trying to install my e brake , but it seems the cable is to long.I put the new cable along side the old and there the same length .I have the housing connected at the crossmember, so it doesn't  move and the cable has to much slack in it.I have the adjusting fork as tight as I can.what is the problem,do you take up the slack by cutting the cable?Need help, Al

Condenser was the only old part I didn't keep.the new one works fine.seats and a muffler and I'll be on the road!!! It only took 2 1/2 years.   Al     [ch128514]

Hi guys, just a update.I had three of my friends look at my cj3a and no one had a answere, they said everything looked right and it should run.I was so fed up ,I took it to a auto shop, they had it for four days and called me to say they couldn't  figure it out.I took it back home and called a retired auto shop teacher to come and look at it.Same story, should run. After he left , I thought, it run before !so l put back on the old points, old roto, old cap and wires and guess what,it runs like a champ!!!  GO FIGURE! Smiling AL

The wires are in the right firing order and they go to the correct plug. I pulled #1 plug to make sure the piston and timing mark in the right position and that the rotor was hitting on 1 on the cap.still won't run smoothly.it will run smooth at high rpm,s for a couple a second and then spit , sputter and die??? I thought it might be getting to much gas, so I bought a gas regulator.tried all 5setting and no change. Since it runs smooth  for a few seconds makes me think the timing is alright? AL

I about 95 percent finish with my 3a.But when I tried to start it,no go, it wants to start, but sputters and hits on a couple cylinders and dies.installed new fuel pump, rebuilt carb, good compression ,fire to the plugs, timing mark on crank on when on top dead center.new plugs, polnts, condenser. With everything lined up , My rotor is pointing at 6o'clock is that correct ?
Thanks AL

Hi, when I took my tank out, it fit and centered the hole in the tub, to the best I can remember. When put tank back in, the spout was setting  on the bottom  of the gas spout opening. So I rised the tank up with wood strips until sprout was centered.I just hope it does'nt interfere with new seats. Al

It looks like the back side of your tank is a 1/2in off the floor, is that normal or did you do that so the spout would center for the grommet ? I had to raise mine 3/4 to get to center spout. Al

I need at least an inch. Right now I have an old Toyota fan belt glued to the floor, probably will have to use treated wood.Al

Hi guys, I'am installing my gas tank, when setting it in place I found that the Neck of the tank sets on the body opening, not letting the tank to lay flat on the floor. Is there something that goes under the tank to rise it up so the neck is centered in the hole? Thanks for any light you can shine on me, Al.    PS, I forgot to say it's a 1951 cj3a

Thanks for the quick response , I thought about bending it ,but didn't  know if it would brake.I guess I expect to much! I always think things should fit when new. Ha ha.I already installed the slop kit, pretty smart setup. Made my own. Thanks again , Al

"Original"-- Technical Questions, Answers, Observations / Brake. Pedal
« on: November 05, 2017, 01:42:51 AM »
hi Iam finally starting to put my cj3a back together! I have had the under carrage done for awhile. It was the body and painting that really slowed me up. My problem is ,after putting the tub back on the frame, the brake pedal is about a inch to the left of the hole in the floor.its a new brake arm and a new shaft. If I put the old one on ,it fits perfect,But it's wore out. The parts came from a well known dealer, not cheapos . I guess my question is has anyone else had this problem?
