There are a lot of folks that made the change on the ECJ5 forum.  There is a wider spread between gears so there is more peo of the line with the deeper first and second but the gaps are larger so you end up having to work a larger RPM band.  If you have an overdrive for great splitting then you will be fine.  I have the parts to do mine when that part of the build comes around.

Last fall I snagged a pair of axles, one being an early CJ5 Dana 44 19 spline and the other a Dana 27.  So now both limited slips will work.

If you buy Spicer Life Series joints they are non greaseable but have better seals and long life lubricant.  It is what the auto manufacturers use on vehicles with really long drivetrain warranties.  I always use Life series on all my vehicles and never have early failures.  My wheeling rig also uses them.  I would rather get rid of maintenance items in an old Jeep because there are plenty more that cannot be eliminated.

Two separate chance eBay finds and now I have a 16T input shaft and 35T cluster gear from a T90C so when I rebuild the transmission I get the lower first and second.  The overdrive will do the range splitting so it should make driving it pretty nice.

If it has say for a while check the heat riser on the exhaust manifold.  If it is such it will quickly boil out the carburetor as the engine comes up to temp and then will not restart until it cools down.  Also check all the battery connections to the block, starter, etc.

The white plastic material was most likely either Delrin or HDPE.  Either would be good for this although HDPE is a bit slicker so it might not ever need lubrication.

Found a Novi governor complete so I will use that one instead of the Monarch for accuracy. Starting to think I want to pump the correct hydraulic pump on it instead of using the Hy-Lo as I see someone over on the 2A board can have the mount reproduced.  Weighing that against retaining the ability to hand crank start which I think is awesome.

No meaningful updates other than finding more parts.  Now have an NOS Kayline bikini top, found a radiator lower chaff guard (needs repairs), bought repair kits for the Trico wiper, found two pairs of 11" brake backing plates, found a few more period single speed governors (a Hobart from a welder with a Willys engine and two Pierce units), a deluxe Harrison heater, and another Monarch Hy-Lo pump. This is definitely a sickness.

Wow, typically when I hear "rust repair" it is usually body or sometimes frames on vehicles up north.  Never seen this level of work on the axle bracketry.  Nicely done!   I love it when folks can keep things in one piece.

Agreed!  Working with pipe can be so time consuming.  You should take it to a dyno when you are finished.

Do you have a PTO shield for the rear gearbox? I'd like to adapt one from a tractor, if that is feasible, as they are so much easier to find...pictures maybe?

I do have a good one buried in the garage attic somewhere but I do have a number of pictures of an NOS one I can email you.  Shoot me a PM with your email address and I can send them to you.

That looks great!  Good work!

I can see how that Koenig top would feel cramped; the windows are very small and the roof line is pretty low.  These are very small vehicles compared to anything modern.
