Title: 1949 CJ3A S/N 26955 - from the Old Pueblo
Post by: Klayton on September 19, 2018, 05:36:40 PM: Howdy from the Old Pueblo (aka Tucson, Az).ï¿½ Name is Klayton and a little over a month ago I picked up my 49 from Grand Junction Colorado.ï¿½ It appears to be a pretty un-molested near original unit that is running strong and driven regularly even when it's 105F outside.

Some quick bullet points:
-Re-painted close to original grey (patomac?)ï¿½ can see it under hood lip)
-Wheels appear original with pinstripe intact
-Some body cancer, but frame is solid - toolbox is not rusted out!
-Engine bay is original except ground cable routing
-Side mount radiator
-6v generator system
-Seats have been recovered but retain original springs
-has a harrison heater (bypassed for now)
-Grote turn indicators with plstic lens rear lights and CJ5? front lenses.
-Gauges appear to be cj2a full sweep versus 90* sweep
-vacuum driver wiper works great
-Dualmatic hubs (have originals and dualmatic box even)
-came with a soft top, but will not likely ever use it.

I plan on keeping it pretty much as is and just fixing things as it needs them.ï¿½ Needs new seat covers, and a rear seat for the kiddo's.ï¿½ Cant decide what direction to go.ï¿½ I have a cj5 rear seat I can mount in, but am leaning towards a repop.ï¿½ Then comes the matter of color, black, grey, or red would all look great on it.ï¿½
I even found a pair of 1949 AZ plates to use on it with matching patina.

Now on to the boring stuff about me.ï¿½ I'm a tucson native and so is my wife.ï¿½ I have always liked jeeps but only bought my first one, a 2013 JKUR in 2013.ï¿½ A buddy of mine and his dad are big into old flatty's and when he picked up his most recent 2a, I got the bug.ï¿½ About 4 months of looking landed me the 49 and I am very happy with it.ï¿½ I'm a mechanical engineer / do everything engineer for a mining equipment OEM and I enjoy fabrication, which works well when you own an old vehicle.
My father has restored quite a few classic cars, but never jeeps so I figure I can carry the torch in a slightly different direction.

These tires are 6.50-16 powerking super traction. They are a 3 digit date code so either 1985 or 1995. They are supple with zero weather checking so I am going to run them a while. Unfortunately, this tire is now only available in a 7.50-16 or a 7.00-15 so I cant source a spare :-/.

A friend of mine is running the powerking super traction II;s in the available 7.50-16 size on his 2a.

I have 600,s on mine as I like the early Jeep look but recently have thought that the CJ,s look a little more purposefull with the larger tyre. Money is always an issue so I will keep my eyes open for a nice similar used set.
