Title: Hi from New Zealand
Post by: Tony on October 23, 2017, 05:01:47 AM
Hi, we are restoring a CJ3A. A few unusual things about it. Rear springs are heavier then normal. Has had plates welded to the chassis but these have been cut off. Not sure if the rear chassis has been strengthened. The wheels look like the centres have been cut out and a heaver plate welded in and the backs of the wheels have some tabs welded on.

The jeep was a barn find and appears to of had a blown head gasket which I think it was parked up. It had been registered for use on public roads in New Zealand. Appears to of done a lot of work in its time as most things we strip down we have to replace busing, bearings etc etc. One interesting repair was the upper steering column bush had been replaced with a bit of PVC pipe and a bronze bush.
It came with a PTO but no drive shaft to the PTO. The spline on the PTO shows it has done a lot of work.
The rear spring look like they have 12 leaves. There is something cut off the chassis (see picture). We left them on after sandblasting the chassis and painting as it was part of its history.  I am not sure if the side rails of the rear chassis have had extra plates welded on the outside or if this is standard.

Also the wheels have been modified. They are 15" but the centers are solid. There are some tabs welede don the back of them.
