Title: Northern NV Willys
Post by: Hunter152 on January 13, 2016, 11:12:53 AM
My first set of wheels at 16 was a 1971 Jeep J-2000. I cut my teeth on that rig and learned a lot as a young kid.

30 years later Ol' Dad and I went in on this rig-- a 1952 Willys Jeep CJ3a. Fun to learn a new engine and carb system but at least I can work on this rig!

It was a little rough around the edges when it first rolled into the shop but a few weeks later it is running sweet with a number of minor upgrades, tune and time of the engine, tires, tire and jack mount, and new paint.

This will be the rig my kids cut their teeth on. Looking forward to many miles in this thing.

I am usually not a fan of multi-color 3A's but that's very sharp looking combination. I like the half cab soft top too.

I spent a fair amount of time in the greater Reno area some years back. Good Jeep country! If either the Peppermill or Atlantis have expanded since I was last there you can thank me for heavily subsidizing their capital improvement projects....

I was hesitant to go for the two color combo but after experimenting with it a bit I decided to go with it.  I know it is slightly unorthodox so opinions are welcome and encouraged!

Welcome.

The black windshield was an original standard change very late in 3A production, but I haven't seen matching black fenders and grill before.  I like it!

I'm from Reno and grew up in the area....most of my time was spent exploring the Pine Nut range  about 50 miles south of you in the old CJ-5. Learned to drive in it too.

I'd love to see pictures of those hills north and east of Sparks....take a trip up to Olinghouse when the roads dry out..

I had the frame and the old top but no mounting hardware.  A call to Bestop and $50 later I was able to install it...  thought I'd share...

Not going to drill 25 holes on the side for the snap mounts.  It feels about like giving my daughter permission for more piercings besides just her ears!  Hard enough drilling the lower door hinges and footman loops.
