Hello there
My name's Glyn Bryan, I live in the UK and now own a genuine 1949 Willys Jeep that was imported into Britain in late 2013. As a boy growing up on farms I have always been used to Land Rovers but over the years have also owned a Japanese Daihatsu Jeep and a Korean Ssangyong Korando - a diesel-engined CJ5.
I think the Jeep is brilliantly engineered and am hugely impressed with the quality of the steel - the old body had led a hard life and was due for retirement but when I removed it from the chassis I was impressed that a 65 year old chassis only required a wire brush and some fresh paint.
Am currently trying to line up a replacement MD Juan tub on the chassis (not too easy!) but am out of action for a while as the tub dropped onto my foot from around 4 feet up when it fell of my chain hoist!
Will keep my Jeep red (originally it was Olive Green) as almost all the Jeeps in the UK are either MBs, GPWs or French-made Hotchkiss painted to look like WW2.

Welcome Glyn,
I have had steel grit in my eyes, nicked my fingers with a grinder, and inhaled enough paint to go wobbly... but have not dropped a tub on my foot yet. good luck with both.

I'll add my Welcome also Glyn. Glad you're here! Like BMIC, I'm also here in Maine on this side of the pond. I also have a '49. It has been in the family since I was a little kid. Dad passed in '75, and I have been carrying it with me for the last 40 years! Need to get it rebuilt before I pass and MY son will have to finish it!
A suggestion. Bob Westerman (A member here on the 3A page, username Bob W) has written a Great book, "The Civilian Jeep, Model CJ3A, A guide to it's features and evolution, 1949 - 1953". You can order it at cj3a.info/book/index.html $25.00 Many of us here on the page think of it, and use it, as a bible. Highly suggest you get one.
I too am looking for a tub. Dad for what ever reason tossed the body, except for the windshield, all those many years ago. Trying to find and save an original. Having a tough time. Go to the Message Board, Tech Talk, and the first entry is about MD Jaun Body/Tub. There are TWO years of entries there! All you need to know.
Glad your here. Use the heck out of the Search feature. If you can't find what you need, post the question. Great bunch of guys and gals here that are willing and able to help. Terry
