Title: Hello from Chelsea, MI
Post by: RichardJ on April 07, 2013, 08:44:22 PM
Hello to all. My Jeep interest dates back to my Grandfather who was a pattern maker for the Overland plant in Toledo, Ohio. My Dad always wanted a military Jeep but when my friend Dave decided to sell his 49 CJ3A that was painted a spruce green I decided it was close enough to start with.

Dave rescued the Jeep from the MI Upper Peninsula where many Jeeps were taken for use in hunting camps. Like most that saw rough service up there this one had a tired engine, lots of body rot, and many missing parts. Dave replaced a lot of sheet metal and had the engine rebuilt. He gave up when the engine would not run right.

After towing the Jeep home and replacing the fuel pump, rebuilding the carburetor, and setting the timing the engine ran well but knocked. After a gradual break in the knock went away and all has been well for many years. All the under hood missing parts were replaced.

To make it look like a military Jeep the tub was rattle canned with OD green paint, grab handles were added, and stencils used to paint military markings including my Dad's WWII service number and Army unit numbers. Photo shows my Dad in a Parade.

The 50 CJ3A is stock with the addition of an overdrive.

The latest projects are Bantam T-3C trailers. One will be painted OD green to match the 49. My Dad landed on Okinawa on Day 1 and said he had to sleep in a military Bantam trailer when a hurricane threated to blow away his tent.

Looks excellent for a rattle can job... What brand and color did you use?

Even tho it isn't accurately described as a true military jeep for your purposed it is fantastic... Any jeep you can transport the veterans in a parade with gets a huge thumbs up from me....
