Happy to finally join. I've been on this site reading and learning for a while now.
Like many of you my mornings start off with coffee and checking out the cj3apage and ewillys.

I've owned a few jeep in the past.
My first jeep was a 94 wrangler, 2nd was a 89 wrangler, 3rd and current 76 CJ5, 4th and on the way 1949 cj3a. ï¿½Funny how they kept getting older.
Also had a Veep :o (not really a jeep but kind of!) for a short period of time.

cj5 was an ebay purchase had it shipped over on a train from Maine.

For anyone who hasn't see a veep (vw+Jeep= Veep)
My goal was to convert this into a electric Vehicle, but couldn't get it register for the road...

One evening when looking through random willys ads I came across one on CL.

"1949 willys runs and drives great! Has original motor with power sterring put in. Also has aftermarket hood and cab in VG condition. new baja tires. Very little rust and has four wheel drive"

It was only 7-8 hour drive away, it has a hard top and doors. (I'm in Canada!) and I thought it was a great deal.

Called the guy right away, talk to him for 10mins and told him I'll take it!

Of course my brain would be very confused hearing that VW whistle instead of the normal jeep gear and fan noises.. Was the inability to register it due to an elecrtic motor conversion or ?? (Seems like it has plates in the pics?)

Looks like you get a nice hardtop with your new jeep. Hopefully the tub is all clean and solid as a result.

I'm particularly fond of the green 3A. Looks like it's got a few mods, but still looks great.

Bill, I wanted to get the veep inspected so I could drive it anytime.... However they said it wouldn't pass because the vw frame had beed shortened to fit the body. They also said it wasn't really a 1971 vehicle so I couldn't use the plates. :P

Congrats! Did you need reverse light and defroster to pass?

The hauler they gave me was almost to wide, just made it on. I'm sure uhaul has an orange car hauler that is narrower.

The tires on the Willys were to big for the tire straps, so I had to tie them around them axels.

This Willys doesn't have an oil filter! What the heck! >:(

Bottom Right of the pic below you can see the stock rims I picked up. Top let are the tires I plan to use 7.00x 15 (left over from my veep project)

Tool marking and glove box on the passenger side. Pulleys in the engine bay have grooves for 2 belts. The PO told me this was a cj3a, but from what I've read looks like I have a m38! Guess this means good bye :'(

The windshield is M38. I can't say anything about the rest.

Do you know what the steering upgrade is? Saginaw? Or something pulled out of an old Blazer? Or?

The hood is definitely aftermarket and the tail lights are scrounged from something non-Jeep.

But it looks like a good, solid Jeep to play with. Have fun and post more pictures. We love pictures.

I'm thinking a cj3a with m38 body? There's no parking brake handle so maybe they couldn't fiqure that part out, the drum is there.

I thinks this is where the m38 parking brake handle is located. Looks like someone thought it would be a good location for a lighter instead >:(

Nope... Not oem. Im also a red seal tech, and do the safeties myself..
