Hi, I am a retired, British expat that has been living in the Laoag City in the Philippines since 2005. I found an ex USN CJ-3A which I am restoring (slowly). It has the original engine, frame and body tub - albeit heavily repaired. The original colour was light grey (under the plates).
I am very pleased that this site is up and running, it seems that the civilian type jeeps are so well catered for as the miltary versions.

Hi Dave,
Welcome back to the 3A. I saw your Willys on the Serial Numbers and Data page. The thing that caught my eye was the interesting modification to the windshield. I've never seen that before. Did you do that?
The original photo shows some things you don't see every day. Lots of chrome. Do I see a bumperette and a gas can carrier mounted at the front? Or is your Willys right up against another Willys?
I have developed a real fondness for Grey Jeeps. Yours looks terrific.

The windshield was modified by a clever Filipino who must have owned it many years ago. It is well done and works well but the hinges are a little different to one another. I have a normal windscreen that I could fit but at the same time this is part of it's history and over here in the heat can be useful. I will be honest to say that I did not realize it was not normal until it was sprayed, it just did not register.
My Willys is backed up to what we call here an "owner jeep". These are homemade with local supplied jeep body kits and frames but not 4WD and generally with Toyota, Nissan or similar running gear. Nine out of 10 Filipinos who see my Willys say "you want to take that engine and gearbox out and fit Toyota!!!!

I'm not an expert but the windshield look like a flip windshield that was available for CJ-5 as an option.

I checked out the CJ-5 and it has a piano type hinge and is split (ref. attached photograph). The local Willyn make had recatangular glass, a piano hinge and was split. Mine is crudely executed, as I said even the hinges are different section (ref. photograph of my previous post). The big give away I realise, is the fact that if it was original the wipers would be at at the top of the opening frame whereas mine are not on the actual opening window frame but below as per normal.
