Title: static engine storage stand
Post by: mssusr9501 on May 01, 2026, 08:20:02 PM
I will be picking up an L134 engine next week.  I would like to build a stand or base to hold the engine in my truck bed.
Can anyone advise of the width dimension from oil pan side rail to oil pan side rail, the length from front oil pan rail to rear oil pan rail and the depth of the oil pan?

I plan to use 2x12 to build a box that the engine can sit in for transport.

Any comments or suggestions welcome.

Thanks.
Bruce

I have my completed L-head (F-head = same block) and an OD trans mounted together sitting in a "car wheel dolly", sitting on the oil pan and the trans rests on the dolly.  The engine could easily sit in there strapped down by itself.  Movable to unload with a ramp, and also in the garage, and would just need to be strapped down in your truck for transport.  I have a V6 Chevy engine the same way.  Just my way to handle the engine mobility issue.  Good Luck.

Thanks, I appreciate your suggestion.
Since I don't have a wheel dolly or a ramp and I do have a bunch of scrap 2x12, I still need dimensions.

I'll have an engine hoist with me to get it into and out of the truck since I'll be with my wife and the seller may not be available to assist.

Search engine AI assist says rail to rail width dimension is 24 inches but that seems ridiculous to me.  I am expecting 15 inches or so max and perhaps 2 ft in length

Brilliant!
Wish I had thought of that.
Thanks very much.
