Title: WANTED
Post by: Eddie on January 15, 2025, 07:27:57 PM
I need the bolt that keeps the lid on the oil filter. It is a civilian filter. Thanks!

Eddie,
There were several canisters used on the willys CJ's.  This is an image of Buddy Wade's '55.  Does your cansister look like this?

I searched on KW and they offered a bolt that "fits all models" and doesn't look like the one above.

You could reach out to Harry Sheets, http://www.midwestwillys.com/ , verify with him which canister you have and he'll probably have a bolt.  I also noticed McMaster has similar bolts on their site too.

If Harry can't fix you up and you want to go the McMaster Carr route, I can pull my bolt out (same as Wade's above) and measure it.

If it helps, here's a kit that includes the bolt and the spring under it. https://www.armyjeepparts.com/p-4334-oil-filter-canister-bolt-spring-set-purolator-military-junior-wwii-jeep-ajp-32145.aspx

Could be mistaken (because I didn't compare part numbers in the books) but think the bolt and spring are common to all the canister filters, military or civilian.
Several vintage military and CJ parts vendors sell them.
Pretty sure a phone call to any of them would get friendly help.

That looks just like the bolt offered by KW.  It states for Purolator.  Visually, you can see a difference just in the head (where the gasket is supposed to be), that may or may not work.

I think it would be best to identify which type canister it is - whether correct or a donor unit from a different jeep.
